Purdue Women Narrowly Beat In-State Rival Notre Dame

Notre Dame and Purdue met in West Lafayette, IN for their annual women’s dual meet. The Boilermakers beat the Irish 155.5 to 145.5, with each team winning 8 events.

Carly Mercer led the way for the women, sweeping the freestyle sprints and swimming the leadoff leg on the victorious 400 free relay. Her 50 freestyle (22.88) and 100 freestyle (49.87) times were both NCAA B-cuts. Allie Davis won the 1000 free and also finished second in the 200 and 500 free. Defending 3-meter NCAA champion Casey Matthews won her first competition from the board this season and took second from the 1-meter board, earning NCAA Zone Qualifying Scores in both events. Francesca Marr (100 and 200 breast, 200 IM) posted a trio of second-place finishes.

Emma Reaney led the Irish with three individual wins in the 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 200 breaststroke. She posted NCAA B-cut times in both breaststroke races at 1:01.94 and 2:13.55. Coach Brian Barnes was also very pleased with the teams 1-2-3 finish in the 200 backstroke, led by Kelly Ryan at 2:00.39.
