The Princeton men came out swinging at their own Big Al Open this morning. Sophomore Teo D’Alessandro downed a school record in the 200 IM with his 1:45.08 prelims swim, and was only .40 off the pool record set by Geoff Rathgeber of Harvard in 2007. The Tigers are hosting the women’s teams from Brown, Dartmouth, Rider, Yale and Villanova and the men’s teams from Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Rider and Villanova. This meet is also serving as the regular season dual meet between Princeton and Brown, as well as between Princeton and Dartmouth.

The women started things off with the 500 free. Yale’s Eva Fabian was the top qualifier in 4:48.83. Her teammate, freshman Isla Hutchinson-Maddox was second (4:53.48), while Brown freshman Megan Viohl (4:53.82) was third.

In the men’s 500, Dartmouth senior Nejc Zupan led the morning session with 4:29.49. Rider freshman Sam Cramer (4:30.37) was second; Brown sophomore Cory Mayfield (4:30.89), third.

Princeton freshman Olivia Chan led the field in the 200 IM with 2:01.08. Yale’s Emma Smith (2:01.33) and Princeton’s Nikki Larson (2:02.20) were right behind. Record-breaking D’Alessandro had the fastest prelims time on the men’s side. Zupan (1:48.89) was second; Princeton’s Marco Bove (1:49.26), third.

Ivy record-holder and Princeton co-captain Lisa Boyce strutted her sprint stuff with a 22.41 morning swim. Yale freshman Kina Zhou (23.25) was second, while Brown’s Reia Tong and Kate Dillione tied for third, each going 23.32.

The men’s sprint featured Dartmouth sophomore Daniel Whitcomb (20.45) and two Brown bears, Jeffrey Strausser (20.49) and Tommy Glenn (20.51) leading the way.

Diving is taking place in the middle of the day; finals will begin at 6:00 p.m. EST.
