Poppas and Martin Lead Catamounts in 2020 Collegiate Long-Distance Virtual Meet

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Mina Poppas and Ellie Martin led a group of seven members of the Vermont Swimming and Diving team that competed in the 2020 Collegiate Long-Distance Virtual Meet. The Catamounts competed virtually against seven other schools and finished third overall behind Kansas and Nebraska.

A total of 38 student-athletes competed in the virtual meet which was designed as a replacement for the CSCAA Open Water Championship. Student-athletes had to complete a 5000m in the month of October to be eligible.

Poppas was the Catamounts top finisher placing 11th overall with a time of 57:54. Competing for the first time in the green and gold Martin was right behind Poppas finishing 12th overall with a mark of 58:28. With the top three times building a team’s overall time Molly Williams 14th place finish of 1:00:07 clinched third place for Vermont.

“I am proud of our seven student-athletes that decided to participate in this event,” said Head Coach Gerry Cournoyer. “I would like to thank Clark Campbell from Kansas for running the event this year giving our athletes an opportunity to try something different.”
