Pittsburgh’s Drew Damich Gives Verbal Commitment to WVU Mountaineers

Drew Damich has made a verbal commitment to swim for the West Virginia University Mountaineers in the 2015-16 season. Damich is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, about 70 miles north of Morgantown, West Virginia, home of the Mountaineers.

Damich is a senior at Chartiers Valley High School in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. At the 2014 PIAA Swimming & Diving Championships, Damich placed second in the 200 free (by .05), second in the 500, and anchored Chartiers Valley’s 200 and 400 free relays. He earned All-American honors in both individual events.

Damich trains with Mount Lebanon Aqua Club, where he is a junior national qualifier in the 50 free, 200 free, and 400 IM. His top times over the last two seasons are:

50y free: 21.36 50m free: 24.26
100y free: 46.65 100m free: 53.92
200y free: 1:40.05 200m free: 1:57.40
500y free: 4:33.20 500m free: 4:09.51
200y IM: 1:55.08 200m IM: 2:13.83
400y IM: 4:04.81 400m IM: 4:37.49
200y fly: 1:53.73 200m fly: 2:08.33

Damich would have scored in the 500 free, 200 free, and 200 fly, had West Virginia used him in those events at 2014 Big 12 Championships. Considering they lost to TCU by only 17 points, Damich should be a welcomed addition to the Mountaineers’ roster in 2015-16.
