AKRON, Ohio — The University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving team closed out the weekend with a sweep over Akron and Miami (OH), highlighted by four first-place finishes in diving and 15 wins in the pool.
The Panthers improve to 6-1 on the women’s side and 4-1 on the men’s.
On the boards, Pitt’s Jocelyn Brooks led a sweep of the top three spots in the women’s 3-meter diving with 303.95 points, followed by Mariana Osorio Mendoza (300.30) and Jess Vega (300.20). Ayla Debowsky captured the 1-meter title with 289.30 points. On the men’s side, Chase Marafioto earned first in the 1-meter dive with 320.35 points, while Noah Bernard set a pool record in the 3-meter with 395.20 points.
In the pool, Emily Bucaro opened the day with a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle, posting a lifetime best of 9:56.82. Avery Kudlac earned two victories in the women’s 200-yard freestyle (1:46.71) and 100-yard freestyle (49.05). Sydney Gring claimed three wins, topping the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.32), 100-yard butterfly (51.95) and 200-yard IM (1:57.48). Claire Jansen added two wins in the 100-yard backstroke (52.29) and 200-yard backstroke (1:53.65), while Angelina Messina finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a lifetime best of 1:01.90.
On the men’s side, Julian Koch claimed victories in the 200-yard freestyle (1:35.41) and the 100-yard butterfly (45.43), setting a pool record and lifetime best in the latter. Mason Leach won both the 100-yard backstroke (47.07) and 200-yard backstroke (1:44.47, lifetime best), while Alan Vergine set a pool record in the 200-yard butterfly (1:42.87). James Allison also notched a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (43.97). The Panthers took second and third in the 1,000-yard freestyle, led by Cy Zhang (9:15.72) and Drew Henry (9:18.45, lifetime best). Patrizio Costanza posted two lifetime bests in the 200-yard freestyle (1:36.30) and 500-yard freestyle (4:24.74). Pitt’s men rounded out the day with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:26.98).

AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron women’s swimming and diving team earned a split in Saturday’s home double dual meet, defeating Miami (Ohio) and falling just short to Pittsburgh at the Ocasek Natatorium.
The Zips topped Miami 182–118 and were edged by Pitt 173–126 in a competitive matchup.
Akron opened the meet with a statement win in the 200-yard medley relay, as Martyna Piesko (Lublin, Poland/Complex of Electronic Schools | Rutgers), Claire Cox, Felicia Klintemar (Stockholm, Sweden/Solna Gymnasium), and Ada Szwabinska combined for a time of 1:37.81 seconds, narrowly out-touching Pitt by just 0.22 seconds.
Ada Szwabinska led the way in the sprints, winning the 50 freestyle in 22.70 and taking second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.62. Helena Lalkovic followed close behind, earning third in the 100 free (50.10) and runner-up in the 200 free (1:48.42).
In the breaststroke events, Akron dominated the top spots. Claire Cox captured first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:01.60, while Madelyn Bosler won the 200 breaststroke (2:14.02) and added a second-place finish in the 100 breast (1:02.45).
Martyna Piesko finished second in the 100 backstroke (54.06) and contributed to relay success, while Avery Knight placed fifth in both backstroke distances.
Akron closed strong with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, as Callie Parkes, Hannah Trainer, Brienne Trumpower, and Szwabinska combined for a winning time of 1:30.15, edging Pittsburgh by just 0.05 seconds.
On the diving side, Paige Bush led the Zips in the 3-meter dive with a score of 222.35, while Sophia Stamm led the way in the 1-meter dive with a score of 246.40.

Akron returns to action when it travels to Cleveland State to take part in the Magnus Cup from November 20-22.

OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University swimming and diving team hit the road to take on the University of Akron and the University of Pittsburgh at Akron on Saturday. The RedHawk women fell to Akron, with a score of 118 to 182 . They also fell to Pittsburgh with a score of 91 to 209. The men fell to Pittsburgh as well, with a score of 121 to 171.
How it Happened:
- The meet kicked off with the women’s 200-yard medley, where the women’s A team (Ella Ziegert, Madison Watschke, Natalie Gilson and Julia Waechter) finished fifth.
- The men’s 200-yard medley followed where the A team finished second. Jensen Nelson, Benjamin Eichberg, Duncan Salmen and Tegan Barrier had a combined time of 1:27.75.
- Casey Stephens finished fourth in the women’s 1000-yard freestyle, earning a time of 10:05.11.
- The men’s 1000-yard freestyle was next, where Elijah Rolfsen finished first, turning in a time of 9:10.50.
- After that came the women’s 200-yard freestyle, where Kaylin Herbet finished third, recording a time of 1:49.15.
- Bryce Menchhofer finished first in the men’s 200-yard freestyle, earning a time of 1:37.77.
- The women’s 100-yard backstroke was next and Ziegert finished fourth with a time of 54.21.
- Nelson finished second in the men’s 100-yard backstroke, turning in a time of 47.15.
- The women’s 100-yard breaststroke followed where Gilson earned a time of 1:02.41, good for third place.
- Next was the men’s 100-yard breaststroke, where Ian Wihebrink finished first, turning in a time of 54.74. Eichberg was second with a time of 54.82.
- Next was the women’s 200-yard butterfly where Gracie Gregory finished fourth, earning a time of 2:02.69.
- Owen Hoban finished second in the men’s 200-yard butterfly, turning in a time of 1:46.01.
- After that was the women’s 50-yard freestyle, where Waechter and Jenna Halliday tied for fifth, turning in times of 23.46.
- The men’s 50-yard freestyle followed, where Tegan Barrier finished first, clocking a time of 20.12. Wihebrink was second with a time of 20.51.
- After that was the women’s 100-yard freestyle, where Herbet finished fourth, posting a time of 50.17.
- Up next was the men’s 100-yard freestyle, where Ian Rodrigues-Kmiliauskis finished second, recording a time of 44.45. Barrier was third with a time of 44.70.
- The women’s 200-yard backstroke was next, and Chrisna Bezuidenhout finished in second place with a time of 1:55.36.
- Nelson finished second in the men’s 200-yard backstroke, turning in a time of 1:44.75. Drew Watson was third with a time of 1:49.36.
- The women’s 200-yard breaststroke followed where Watschke earned a time of 2:15.86, good for third.
- Next was the men’s 200-yard breaststroke, where Pablo Silva finished first by turning in a time of 1:57.85. Hoban was second with a time of 2:01.25.
- Gregory was first in the women’s 500-yard freestyle, recording a time of 4:52.05.
- The men’s 500-yard freestyle followed and Rolfsen finished first, posting a time of 4:24.68.
- Next was the women’s 100-yard butterfly where Gilson finished sixth, earning a time of 55.59.
- Salmen finished third in the men’s 100-yard butterfly, turning in a time of 48.18.
- Rebekah Gurley finished first in the women’s 200-yard IM, posting a time of 2:03.04.
- Up next was the men’s 200-yard IM, where Hoban finished second with a time of 1:47.74.
- The women’s 200-yard freestyle relay was after that. Waechter, Halliday, Gilson and Herbet turned in a combined time of 1:32.00.
- Swimming events concluded with the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay. Barrier, Rodrigues-Kmiliauskis, Salmen and Owen Fowler posted a combined time of 1:20.14.
- For diving events, Sydney Rice earned a second-place finish in the women’s 1M dive with a score of 276.45.
- The men’s 1M dive was next, where Noam Kulbak posted a score of 315.80, good for second place. Paul Hong was third with a score of 296.80.
- Mia Meinhardt earned a fourth-place finish in the women’s 3M dive with a score of 262.90.
- Hong was second in the men’s 3M dive, scoring 365.85.
