Pitt Gets Commitment from North Hills Freestyler, Brian Lovasik

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-native Brian Lovasik will swim for University of Pittsburgh beginning in 2015-16. Lovasik swims with North Hills Aquatics and attends North Hills High School, just north of Pittsburgh.

“I chose the University of Pittsburgh because of the superior academic and athletic opportunities available. I love the coaches, the team and the city of Pittsburgh! Hail to Pitt!”

Primarily a freestyler, Lovasik swam a variety of events at North Hills High. Most recently he placed fourth in the 200 free (1:40.23) at the 2014 PIAA Boys AAA Swimming & Diving Championships.

Lovasik has national time standards in the 50/100/200 free and his short course times in those events are all team and pool records at North Hills High.

50y free – 21.25                50m free – 24.28
100y free – 45.36              100m free – 51.94
200y free – 1:39.92          200m free – 1:56.06
500y free – 4:41.80

It took a 20.17/44.67/1:39.21 to score at 2014 ACC Championships in the 50/100/200. Lovasik is right about there already, and if you consider how much time he dropped this past long course last season in his 50m (-.61 seconds), 100m (-1.71 seconds), and 200m (-5.97) free, you begin to realize the Panthers were smart to keep this local swimmer at home.
