Peru to Send 7 to Short Course World Championships

The Peruvian Swimming Federation will send 7 swimmers to 2014 Short Course World Championships in Doha, Qatar from December 3rd-7th.

In the official announcement last Saturday, the Pervuians announced the following 7 swimmers:

  • Andrea Cedron
  • Jessica Cattaneo
  • Mauricio Fiol
  • Kaori Miyahara
  • Jean Pierre Monteagudo
  • Erika Garcia
  • Jesus Monge

The 20-year old butterflier Fiol is one of the country’s stars, having placed 19th in the 200 fly at the 2013 long course World Championships (1:58.29), 25th in the 100 fly (53.11), and 35th in the 50 fly (24.32).

If Fiol is the established star, Cedron is a rising star, having broken the National Record at the selection meet in the 200 free, swimming 2:01.53 in short course meters.

Peru has never won a medal at the Short Course World Championships, and have just one finalist in the 12 editions to date.
