Parkway Sprinter Kristen Petersen Commits to Johns Hopkins

Kristen “Kiki” Petersen of Parkway Swim Club and Parkway West High School in St. Louis has given her verbal commitment to swim for John Hopkins University.

Kiki was second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events at the 2015 MSHSAA Championships while representing Parkway West.  In the 2016 MSHSAA Championships last weekend at St. Peters, Kristen finished second place again in the 50 free, and third in the 100 free, swimming lifetime bests of 23.59 and 51.59 in the preliminary rounds.  She also anchored the 2016 Longhorns to runner-up finishes in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays with splits of 23.28 and 51.21.

Johns Hopkins, where long-time head coach George Kennedy has just announced he will be retiring after 31 years of leading the program, finished 5th at NCAA D3 Nationals last year. Kiki will be a big contributor right away, as she would have been fifth last year in the Bluegrass Mountain Conference in both sprint freestyles and fourth place in the 100 back with NCAA Division 3 ‘B’ cuts in all three events.

Kiki’s Head Coach at Parkway Swim Club, Jon David Williford told SwimSwam, “Kristen is a very dedicated swimmer with a lot of talent and speed. I’m excited to see what the future holds for her at John Hopkins.”

“I chose Johns Hopkins because of its perfect mix of stellar academics and athletics, in addition to the amazing coaches and team members who made me feel at home. I can’t wait to be a Blue Jay!”
