Park Hill South Makes History With Third Straight Missouri Class 2 State Title

The Park Hill South girls’ swimming and diving program made history at the 2026 Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 2 State Championships.

The team captured its third straight state title — the first three-peat in program history — finishing 59 points ahead of runner-up St. Joseph.

Park Hill South was paced by sophomore Avery Hogue, who won the 200 IM in a personal best time of 2:05.57 and was a part of Park Hill’s winning team in the 200 free relay.

Hogue split 24.36 on the third leg to help Park Hill win in a time of 1:39.12. Other team members were Elisa Decaro (24.82), Brooke Nichols (24.94) and Ashlyn Hines (25.00).

Park Hill South also got a win in 1-meter diving, with senior Aniya Clemons winning the title  with 395.85 points.

There were two multi-event winners at the meet, Parkway South senior Alexis Cook and Pembroke Hills senior Lance Tietjen.

Committed to Missouri, Cook first repeated as champion in the 500 free, clocking a time of 4:53.21. She later won the 100 back in a personal best time of 54.02.

A Princeton commit, Tietjen made it a double repeat in the 200 free and 100 fly. She claimed the title in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.02, and then won the 100 fly in 55.75.

Another individual standout was St. Joseph senior Avery Cunnean, a Boston College commit.

Cunnean repeated as champion in the 100 free with a time of 51.84, and was a part of two winning relay teams.

In the 200 medley relay, Cunnean led off in 25.97 on the back leg to help St. Joseph win in a time of 1:46.43. Other team members were Vienna Schindler (31.30), Payton Robic (25.76) and Anna-Grace Guenther (23.40).

Cunnean then threw down a 51.29 anchor leg to help St. Joseph win the 400 free relay in a time of 3:31.63. Guenther (51.93) and Claire Chumley (54.59) and Robic (53.82) were the other team members.

Other individual winners were:

  • Marquette junior Paige Blom won the 50 free in a time of 23.98.
  • Rock Bridge sophomore Madison Shryock captured the 100 breast, clocking a personal best time of 1:04.88.
