Panitz, Jankovics Lead Ohio State To Sweep of Denison

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State swimming and diving teams remain undefeated after dominant dual meet victories over Denison. The No. 5 women’s team defeated the Big Red, 180-108, and the No. 14 men’s team won 186-103.

Tristan Jankovics won two events on the night, placing first in the 200 free with a time of 1:38.41 and in the 200 breast with a time of 2:01.90.

Josephine Panitz placed first in the 100 breast (1:00.50) and the 200 breast (2:12.08). Both her times are NCAA B standard times. She finished the 100 breast three seconds ahead of second-place Reese Dehen (1:03.59) and had a five-second lead on second-place Dehen (2:17.75) in the 200 breast.

Janie Boyle won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. She scored a 306.90 on the 1-meter and a 313.87 on the 3-meter; both are NCAA Zones qualifying scores.

Both teams opened the night with victories in the 200 medley relay. On the women’s side. The team of Tristan HarrisonHannah BachKatherine Zenick and Teresa Ivan finished in 1:38.56. For the men, Eli Stoll, Karl Helmuth, Evan Fentress and Jean-Pierre Khouzam finished in 1:30.30.

In the 1000 free, Krista Marlin and Owen Conley earned first-place finishes. Marlin touched the wall at 10:08.48 and Conley turned in a time of 9:36.59.

Zenick was victorious in the 200 free, finishing in 1:48.92.

Harrison won the 100 back for the women with a time of 54.68. For the men, Stoll earned his first individual collegiate win, swimming the 100 back in 50.13.

Lucy Malys (2:02.56) and Khouzam (1:50.37) were the winners of the 200 fly.

Amy Fulmer took first place in the 50 free with an NCAA B standard time of 22.63. Tomas Navikonis won the 50 free for the men with a time of 20.92.

In the 100 free, Hall (51.37) and Pete Krusinski (45.98) earned wins.

Lyle Yost was the winner of the 3-meter dive, recording an overall score of 417.30, which is an NCAA Zones qualifying score.

Clayton Chaplin won the 1-meter dive with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 377.85.
Kyra Sommerstad won the 200 back for the women, finishing in 2:04.65. Luke Paxton was the winner for the men with a time of 1:50.40.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (November 11, 2023) – For the second year in a row, the No. 3 Denison University women’s swimming & diving team suffered a 180-108 loss to the No. 5-ranked team in NCAA Division I, The Ohio State University, on Friday night at the McCorckle Aquatic Pavilion. This was the 13th straight season that Ohio State has hosted the Denison women in a dual meet on the OSU campus.

In the opening event, the 200 medley relay, Denison’s group of Jassy ParkRiley TofflemireMaja Palmroos and Phoebe Ferguson finished third with a time of 1:46.04.

In the 1000 freestyle, Tara Witkowski was third with a time of 10:33.46 and Lucy Hardart was fourth at 11:00.25; and in the 200 freestyle, Emily Harris was fifth at 1:54.14 while Esme Wright was seventh at 1:55.20.

Park put together a strong third-place showing with a time of 56.99 seconds in the 100 backstroke while Grace Kadlecik was seventh at 1:00.20; and then Tofflemire was third in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:05.62 while Zoe Barclay was fifth at 1:08.08.

Nikki Barnas was sixth at 2:10.74 in the 200 butterfly and Amber Croonquist was seventh at 2:12.08; and then in the 50 freestyle, Palmroos was sixth at 24.36 seconds while Liv Chow was seventh at 25.37 seconds.

Ferguson had Denison’s first second-place finish of the meet as she swam a time of 53.35 seconds in the 100 freestyle while Kadlecik was fourth at 54.07 seconds.

Chow (2:07.12) and Harris (2:08.13) were back-to-back in fourth and fifth place in the 200 backstroke; and then in the 200 breaststroke, Wright was sixth at 2:26.26 and Barclay was seventh at 2:27.43.

From there, Quinn Brown (5:06.73) was first in the 500 freestyle while Erika Schraber (5:17.48) was second and Hardart (5:20.47) was third.

Croonquist (57.83), Palmroos (57.88) and Avery Vogen (59.94) finished 1-3 in the 100 butterfly; and then Witkowski (2:13.32), Maria Mrosko (2:15.50) and Rebecca Martin (2:15.53) did the same in the 200 IM.

In the 400 freestyle relay, Chow, Harris, Ferguson and Wright were first with a time of 3:34.35 while Natalie English, Vogen, Croonquist and Kadlecik were second at 3:40.61.

Lastly, Lu-Si Minnich (233.02) was third, Kerstyn Johnson (225.22) was fourth and Alexis Radhakrishnan (224.77) was fifth in the 3-meter dive while on the 1-meter board, Radhakrishnan (224.85) was fourth and Molly McIntyre (203.10) was fifth.

Denison will return to the pool in three weeks when it hosts the Denison Invitational (Nov. 29-Dec. 2) at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
