Ohio State Sweeps Big Ten Men’s Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes swept this week’s Big Ten men’s swimming and diving weekly awards; Charlie Clark was named the Swimmer of the Week, Jack Matthews was selected as the Diver of the Week and Tristan Jankovics earned Freshman of the Week honors.

The trio helped Ohio State to a 187.5-165.5 dual meet victory over Virginia Tech over the weekend to kick off the 2022-23 season.

Clark turned in two impressive performances. He won the 1000 free, finishing the event in 9:02.58. Clark finished 17 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. He also earned a win in the 500 free with a time of 4:22.72, which was seven seconds quicker than the second-place swimmer.

Matthews placed first in the men’s 1-meter dive with a score of 380.63. He placed fourth in the 3-meter dive with an overall score of 382.65. Both are NCAA Zones qualifying scores.

In his debut with the Buckeyes, Jankovics had a strong weekend. He placed fourth in both the 200 IM (1:49.49) and the 200 back (1:50.36). He placed seventh in the 100 back with a time of 50.82. Jankovics was also on the sixth-place 200 medley (1:31.30) and 400 free (3:05.10_ relay teams.

The Buckeyes are back in action on Friday, Nov. 11 when they host Denision for a dual meet at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
