DETROIT – The Oakland men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams tallied 23 first place finishes to top Wayne State, 170.5-108.5 on the men’s side, and 179-96 on the women’s side.
The Golden Grizzlies opened the afternoon with a sweep in the 400 medley relay. The women’s team of Susan LaGrand, Taylor Bailey, Jordyn Shipps and Ronja Riihinen finished first in 3:49.09, nearly seven seconds faster than the second place finishers. On the men’s side, Marko Khotynetskyi, Christian Bart, Mack Flowers and Rudy Aguilar topped the competition finishing in 3:20.54.
In the women’s 200 free, Oakland finished one through four led by Mia Keranen (1:56.67), Emily Aycock (1:57.20), Sohvi Nenonen (1:58.20) and Sam Thiessen (1:58.79). Khotynetskyi led the men, finishing first in 1:41.43.
Oakland took the top spots in the 100 IM on both the men’s (Jack Wike, 52.36) and women’s (Susan LaGrand, 58.37) side.
The Golden Grizzlies were a force in the 200 fly as the women placed in the top two led by Jordyn Shipps (2:03.89) and Madelyn Cislo (2:08.72), while Danylo Hrebelnyi (1:52.71), Rudy Aguilar (1:53.26), and Sebastian Aquirre (1:58.72) led on the men’s side.
Keranen and Riihinen led the way in the 100 free with a time of 53.52 and 53.65 respectively. Shipps and Khotynetskyi led the Golden Grizzlies in the 100 backstroke as Shipps placed first for the women (57.53) and Khotynetski led the men (50.98).
In the breaststroke Bailey placed first, touching the wall in 1:03.99 to lead the women. Bart placed first on the men’s side (56.22) while Ryan Geheb placed second (58.18).
In the 500 free Emily Aycock took the top spot (5:16.23), with teammate Sohvi Nenonen finishing right behind in a time of 5:17.47. Bora Kutlu (4:46.76), Philip DeJonge (4:50.07) and Ben Davis (4:54.16) finished first through third respectively.
Keranen and Bailey were neck-in-neck in the 50 fly, as Keranen touched the wall in 26.14, edging Bailey who finished in 26.15.
In the 400 IM Oakland finished in the top four spots led by LaGrand (4:28.40), Julia Cook (4:38.21), Sonya Zubenko (4:45.78) and Maya Lewis (4:51.70). Andrew Bernsdorf (4:09.04) and Ian Allen (4:14.13) took first and second on the men’s side.
The men’s 200 free relay ended the afternoon with a close race, edging Wayne State’s second place finish by three-tenths of a second, touching the wall in 1:23.40.
In diving, Ellie Chalifoux swept the one and three meter competition, scoring a 262.80 in the one-meter and 263.55 in the three-meter competition. Luke Lathrup led the men in the one-meter finishing first with a score of 246.97.
The Golden Grizzlies will welcome the Warriors to the Oakland Aquatic Center tomorrow at noon as Oakland celebrates its 16 seniors. The senior day recognition is set to begin at 11:25 a.m. Sunday’s meet will air on ESPN+.

ROCHESTER, Mich. — In its second day of action against Oakland University, the Wayne State University women’s swim and dive team fell to the Golden Grizzlies by a final score of 197-82.
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
The Warriors dominated the 1000 free, claiming first and second place. Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) touched out in first, posting a B-cut time of 10:22.74. Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia) was just behind her, earning a time of 10:27.87.
In the 200 free, Amelia Plonis (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) collected a third-place finish with a time of 2:01.28. Not long after, Maddy Chorley (Burton, Mich. / Davison) took second in the 50 back, recording a time of 27.66.
Julia Brunner (Traverse City, Mich. / St. Francis) tallied a third-place finish in the 50 free, collecting a time of 24.65. Later in the meet, Munoz took third in the 100 free, touching out in 53.85.
Chorley and Fox left their mark in the 200 back, finishing second and third, respectively. Chorley recorded a time of 2:08.24, while Fox was just behind her, earning a 2:08.29. Just one event later, Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) claimed second place in the 200 breast. She had a time of 2:25.61.
Munoz and Brunner took second and third, respectively, in the 100 fly. Munoz finished in 58.70, while Brunner posted a time of 58.96.
In diving action, Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) won the three-meter event with a score of 266.70. She placed second in the one-meter event, collecting a score of 214.58.
RELAY RESULTS
The quartet of Chorley, Koh, Brunner and Marina Tarlev (Athens, Greece) took third in the 200 medley relay, notching a time of 1:47.58.
To close the meet, the Warriors’ team of Munoz, Tarlev, Brunner and Fox finished third in the 400 free relay. The quartet touched out in 3:34.75.

The Green and Gold will look to get back on track, hitting the pool again on Jan. 28 at Calvin. The meet is set to begin at 5 PM.
ROCHESTER, Mich. — The Wayne State University men’s swim and dive team squared off against Oakland University for the second consecutive day, with the Warriors falling by a final score of 194.50-86.50.
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Kyle Lovas (Shepherd, Mich. / Alma) kicked off the individual events with a second-place finish in the 1000 free, posting a time of 9:53.16. Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.) followed that up with his own second-place finish in the 200 free, touching out in 1:41.02.
After a strong meet the day prior, Franz Mueller (Brandenburg, Germany) picked up right where he left off, collecting second place in the 50 back with a time of 23.80. He also took second in the 100 free, recording a time of 46.27.
The 50 free was a strong event for the Warriors, as Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) touched out in first and Michael Wolsek (Trenton, Mich.) tied for second. Cvetko earned a B-cut time of 20.54, while Wolsek recorded a 21.06. Later in the meet, Wolsek placed second (49.79) in the 100 fly, while Cvetko (50.81) took third.
Clayton Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.) was strong in the 200 back, posting a second-place time of 1:56.30.
In diving action, Jeffrey Cottingham, Jr. (Dearborn, Mich. / Edsel Ford) finished second in the three-meter dive and third in the one-meter dive. Grant Porter (Haslett, Mich.) took third in the three-meter event. Cottingham Jr. scored a 233.40 in the three-meter event and a 226.13 in the one-meter dive.
RELAY RESULTS
The team of Cvetko, Wolsek, Jones and Mueller collected a first-place finish in the 400 free relay, posting a time of 3:02.10.
In the 200 medley relay, the Warriors’ quartet of Mueller, Kinnard, Wolsek and Cvetko recorded a 1:31.04, which was good for second place.
