The Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team claimed its fourth consecutive dual meet win with a victory over Oakland University, Saturday, Nov. 11, at Jones Natatorium. Junior Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) paced the Eagles with three individual event wins en route to the 199-101 win.

Strong relay performances provided the Eagles with an early edge as the Green and White finished first and third in the 200 medley relay. The cohort of sophomore Claire Young(Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Pointe South), juniors Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) and Michal Liberman (Rosh Haayin, Israel-Begin), and senior Chase Walker(Vriginia Beach,Va.-Landstown) claimed first with a time of 1:44.02. In third-place, sophomore Casey Gavigan (East Setauket, N.Y.-Ward Melville), freshman Carlee Jones(Edgewood, Ky.-Notre Dame Academy), junior Dora Vrcic (Dubrovacka, Split, Croatia), and sophomore Amelia Armstrong-Grant (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Saline) clocked in at 1:46.87.

After a dominating first-place performance in the 1000 freestyle, Swartz jumped right back in the pool to lead an Eastern sweep in the 200 free. The Dayton, Ohio native grabbed the top spot with a time of 1:54.24, while freshman Meike Staffeldt (Niedersachsen, Germany) and junior Marissa Marion (Rockford, Mich.-Rockford) rounded out the sweep, clocking in at 1:54.82 and 1:55.47, respectively.

EMU posted a pair of top-three finishes in the 100 backstroke. Paced with a win by Gavigan, the Eagles also earned points on a third-place finish in the form of Young.

On the heels of a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke by Duncan, Eastern extended its lead with its second sweep of the day, this time in the 200 butterfly. Junior Emilie Desnoyers(St. Albert, Alberta) led the way, turning in a time of 2:06.70. Close behind was freshman Abby Rapien (Cincinnati, Ohio-Taylor) finishing at 2:06.93, while junior Rebecca Winnert(Buffalo, N.Y.-Williamsville) snagged third at 2:08.07.

Eastern’s winning streak was halted in the 50 free as Oakland registered its first win of the afternoon. Walker swam to a second-place finish with a time of 24.02 while junior Stephanie Johnston (Holland, Mich.) was just edged out of a top-three finish at 24.08.

In the 200 breast, the Eagles used a pair of top-three finishes to distance themselves from OU. Duncan clocked in at 2:19.85 to take first while Jones touched in with a time of 2:24.77 to finish third.

Swartz picked up her third individual win of the afternoon in the 500 free, propelling EMU to another 1-2 punch. Leading the way, Swartz clocked in at 4:58.94 to take first, while Dombkowski posted a time of 5:00.82 for second.
