Norwegian Nils Lervik Commits to Arizona State

As Bob Bowman continues to reshape the Arizona State Sun Devils, he is already lining up commitments in his first recruiting cycle. Nils Lervik, a middle distance freestyler from Asker Swimming Club just outside of Oslo, committed after a recent recruiting visit.

“I decided to only visit ASU even though I had offers to visit other schools. I absolutely loved my visit…The enthusiasm the team showed in practice and the philosophy they have is amazing”

Lervik best times put him firmly in contention for a spot in ASU’s mid-distance lineup. The Sun Devils finished last (6th) in the PAC-12 Men’s 800 freestyle relay last year and graduate two members of that team.

Despite the distance, ASU has had several other Scandinavian swimmers over the years, most recently graduating Icelandic backstroker David Adalsteinsson in 2013 and Danish national Julius Schmidt and Swede Deniz Hekmati in 2012. The prospect of swimming in the sun year round is clearly enticing for swimmers who often endure cloudy, gloomy winters.
