Katie Breault of Ottawa, Ontario, has officially committed to the University of North Dakota for the fall of 2016. Breault swims for the Nepean Kanata Barracudas swim club and specializes in butterfly and IM events.

“I am very happy to say that I am an official Hawk! I loved UND from the beginning, the people were amazing, the campus was gorgeous and the coaches were fantastic! Swimming is an huge part of my life and I want to improve so I knew that I had to go to a school where I had coaches to help me achieve my goals and when I got to UND, I knew that I found what I needed. UND feels like my home away from home and I am so excited to start my new adventure!”

Although only in her sixth year of swimming, Breault has moved up the ladder fairly quickly and just recently attended the Canadian Olympic Swim Trials. Breault told SwimSwam she has her sights set high and knows the coaching staff at UND will provide her with all of the right tools so she can achieve her goals.

Breault’s best times, converted to SCY

  SCM SCY equivalent
200 free 2:02.43 1:50.92
400 free 4:20.27 5:00.09
800 free 8:53.08 10:14.64
100 back 1:02.10 56.26
200 back 2:15.10 2:02.40
100 fly 1:01.44 55.66
200 IM 2:17.42 2:04.50
400 IM 4:48.58 4:21.45

Additionally, she most recently added a LCM 1:01.72 in the 100 fly (54.74 converted), 2:22.63 in the 200 IM (2:05.08), and 5:03.44 in the 400 IM (4:28.84).

Breault will be a strong addition to the UND roster. The Fighting Hawks are coming off a year in which they broke four team records and finished sixth at Western Athletic Conference championships. Breault’s converted 100/200 back, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM times would easily have placed her in the A finals at conference, so head coach Chris Maiello will have the option of using her wherever she will have the greatest impact. Breault will also help UND’s relays; the most obvious of which is the 4×200 free relay, which could have finished two spots higher with her presence.

Breault will join the following commits in the UND Class of 2020:
