North Carolina HS State Champion Thomas Greathouse Verbals To George Washington For Fall 2027

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

North Carolina high school state champion Thomas Greathouse has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at George Washington University beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:

I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at George Washington University. I want to thank my parents and family for always supporting me. Thank you to Coach Kevin and my past coaches at SwimMAC Carolina for helping me develop and continue to grow as a swimmer. Lastly, a big thank you to Coach Chico and the rest of the GW coaching staff for giving me this incredible opportunity. RAISE HIGH!!

A rising senior at Charlotte Latin High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, Greathouse has been a member of his school’s varsity swimming team since his freshman year. He also trains year-round with SwimMAC Carolina, where he primarily specializes in sprint freestyle and butterfly.

Greathouse is coming off a strong 2025-26 short course season that saw him chip away at his lifetime bests across three meets: the NC ATOM Winter Invite in December, North Carolina Senior Championships in February, and Speedo Sectionals – Cary in March. By season’s end, he dropped his 50 free PB from 20.88 to 20.81, 100 free from 45.97 to 44.88, and 100 fly from 49.65 to 49.47.

On the high school scene, Greathouse won his first-ever individual state title at the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) Division I State Championships in February. He won the 100 free (45.95) and finished runner-up in the 50 free (21.01) individually, and also helped the 200 free relay and 400 free relay win gold with leadoff splits of 21.18 and 46.98, respectively. He now has four state titles to his name after also helping the 200 medley relay to a win as a sophomore.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 Freestyle: 20.81
  • 100 Freestyle: 44.88
  • 200 Freestyle: 1:38.47
  • 100 Butterfly: 49.47

A Division I Mid-Major program, the George Washington men clinched the Atlantic-10 Conference title this past season. Greathouse’s current career bests in the 100 and 200 free would have already qualified for the ‘B’ final this past season, and he’s not far off the 20.54 and 48.92 needed to qualify in the 50 free and 100 fly, with two full seasons of training still ahead of him before his first conference meet.

Greathouse joins Jared Berke in committing to the Revolutionaries’ class of 2031 so far.
