NEWARK, N.J. – The Lafayette men’s swimming and diving Leopards came up just short in a dual meet on Thursday night with NJIT taking a 155-138 win. Sophomore Peter Kawash’s win in the 100-yard individual medley broke the Lafayette school record.

The men managed a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Sophomores Kawash, Sean RobinsonAvery Letourneau and senior Aaron Tupper posted a time of 3:22.74. Kawash also secured a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.01). The highlight of the night was the 100-yard individual medley where Kawash broke the Lafayette school record. Finishing the race in 51.04, Kawash beat the school record previously held by Michael Gorgan set in 2021.

In the 200-yard butterfly, sophomore Andrew Campbell finished in first place, clocking a time of 1:53.32. Tupper secured a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (50.35). Freshman Peter Curtis took home first place in the three-meter diving with a score of 221.48.

The Leopards’ final win of the night took place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The foursome of sophomore Antonio Arena, freshman Tommy Weber, Tupper and sophomore Kyle Mazziotti managed first place with a time of 1:24.82.

“There were a lot of performances that were big improvements over what we did against Lehigh, our suited meet in November,” said Lafayette head coach James Dailey. “We moved a lot of people up on the in-season top-five lists, improved our seed times for championships and have a lot of momentum going into our season-ending meet at Bucknell. It shows that the training trip to Florida and all the double workouts were worth the effort and time.”

Next up for the Leopards will be the final meet of the regular season at Bucknell on Jan. 28.
