SwimSwam is hosting an NCAA coaches Town Hall on Tuesday, May 26th at 6:00pm Eastern Time / 5:00 p.m. Central Time / 3pm Pacific Time, focused on one of the most important questions in modern swimming:

The session, “The New Coaching Edge: Technique, Data and the Athlete Who Owns It,” will be hosted by Olympic champion Mel Stewart and feature:

  • Dr. Ken Ono – University of Virginia mathematician and data scientist, founding scientist Velocity Swim Labs
  • Will Tenpas –  Data scientist working with Dr. Ken Ono and Velocity Swim Labs on applied swim-performance analysis
  • Jaimie Fuller – eo SwimBETTER Founder

This is not a sales presentation. It is a coaching conversation.

Swimming has always been a sport of feel: feel for the water, the catch, the rhythm, the race. But the next coaching edge may come from pairing that feel with clear, objective feedback athletes can understand and act on themselves.

We’ll discuss:

  • Where the coaching eye has limits, especially underwater
  • How measurement can help coaches prioritize what to fix first
  • Why effort and speed are not the same thing
  • How athletes can learn to capture, read, adjust, and check their own feedback
  • What this model could look like inside an NCAA program

The goal is not to replace coaching intuition. The goal is to sharpen it.

The best coaches already see a lot. This conversation is about helping them see where to look next.
