Navy Men & Women Sweep Three Opponents

ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– A combined 17 members of the Navy swimming and diving teams recorded an individual event victory Saturday during a sweep by the Mids of Patriot League foes American, Bucknell and Lafayette in Lejeune Hall.

The Navy women’s team (9-1) posted victories of 254-35 over American (2-4), 213-87 over Bucknell (5-1) and 254-45 over Lafayette (0-4).  Navy’s men’s squad (8-2) tallied wins of 182-66 over American (0-6), 175.5-109.5 over Bucknell (5-1) and 184-84 over Lafayette (1-3).

Seven different Navy women’s swimmers and divers won at least one individual event during the meet.  Winning two swimming events were Ashley Boddiford (Jr., Oviedo, Fla.) and Sydney Harrington (So., Fairfax, Va).  Boddiford posted a time of 56.58 to win the 100 back by 13-hundredths of a second and recorded an effort of 200.49 to win the 200 back by 1.53 seconds.  Harrington would first win the 200 fly by 3.78 seconds with her time of 1:59.62, then she would be the victor in the 200 individual medley by 2.69 seconds thanks to her clocking of 2:04.68.

“It was a good day for Navy,” said Navy women’s swimming head coach John Morrison.  “I was very proud of the energy and fight in the first portion of the meet, but we need to work on better managing the same energy during the second half.  Overall, there were some great in-season performances in both swimming and diving.  I’m proud of the fight we displayed in the last two events.”

Winning two events for the Navy men’s team were swimmer Luke Johnson (Jr., Charlotte, N.C.) and diver Bradley Buchter (Sr., Hickory, N.C.).  Johnson claimed wins in each of the two distance freestyle races.  He would win the 1000 free by 12 seconds with his time of 9:24.06 and was the top swimmer in the 500 free with his time of 4:34.32.  Johnson won the 500 free by 1.21 seconds.

Buchter topped 400 points in winning each of the two boards and had a combined margin of victory of 191.55 points.  He scored 440.15 points to win the one-meter board and accrued 405.80 points to win the three-meter event.

“I’m really pleased with the way we raced and competed today,” said Navy men’s swimming head coach Bill Roberts.  “Like everyone else, we are in a really challenging training stretch right now and I am very proud of the way the team is responding.  Andy MacGregor (Sr., Grand Rapids, Mich.) and his classmates have been doing a terrific job in leading this group and it is great to see all of their hard work and commitment in action.”

Each of the Navy teams are off from competition this coming week.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell men’s swimming & diving team bested American, 215-67, and Lafayette, 204-83, on Saturday at Navy’s Lejeune Hall.

The Bison (5-1, 4-1 PL) also fell to the host Midshipmen by a 175.5-109.5 margin. Bucknell had three individual event winners: Will Cadwallader (1-meter dive), Leo Kuyl (50 freestyle) and Sean Quinn (200 IM).

Kuyl was a standout for the Bison, also leading off the first-place 200 freestyle relay team and placing third in the 100 freestyle. Alan FlowerJack Rose and Matt Mills also swam on that champion 200 freestyle relay team.

Bucknell next travels to Loyola for a dual on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell women’s swimming & diving team topped American, 238-51, and Lafayette, 254-45, on Saturday at Navy’s Lejeune Hall.

The Bison (5-1, 4-1 PL) also fell to the host Mids by a 213-87 margin. Bucknell was led by Catherine Craig and Maddie Hartigan, who each won two events.

Craig swept the breaststroke races while Hartigan touched the wall first in the 500 and 1,000 freestyles. Hartigan added third-place performances in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay.

Alexis Faria was the Bison’s other individual winner, capturing the 100 butterfly crown. She and Craig were also members of the third-place 200 medley relay team.

Bucknell next travels to Loyola for a dual on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.

ANNAPOLIS, MD. – The Lafayette swimming and diving team continued their season today with a Patriot League matchup against Navy, Bucknell, and American. In a hard fought meet, the men were after to defeat American by a total score of 165-97, and dropped the other two.

On the men’s side, the foursome of Ethan KeyesMichael GorganTanner McFarland, and Aaron Tupper kicked off the actiom, finishing seventh in the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:37.01. Gorgan also came back later to finish fifth in the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 58.90 and second in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:11.49.  Tupper also returned later to finish seventh in the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 21.69 and sixth in the 100 yard freestyle in 47.81.

Justin Lloyd continued his fast start to the season, finishing fourth in the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:43.65. His strong day was not done, as he also later came back to finish fourth in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 4:42.75 for the Leopards.

Sean Reilly had a strong performance for the Leopards, finishing sixth in the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 10:13.05. Nicholas Sabella also swam well in the same race, finishing eighth in 10:28.33. Another sixth place finisher belonged to Dylan Phee in the 100 yard butterfly in a finishing time of 53.67.

Jason Wong also had a good meet, finishing fifth in the 200 yard IM in a final time of 2:04.91.

Jamison Crow also got in on the action, finishing eighth in the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 1:59.81.

Finishing the meet off strong was the foursome of Gorgan, Bryce Currie, Lloyd, and Tupper, finishing second in the 200 yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:27.34.

On the women’s side, Tara Leininger got the action started, finishing eighth in the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 11:07.16. Lauren Lapsley finished 10th in the heat in a time of 11:19.91. Leininger also came back later to finish 12th in the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:42.82 while Lapsley also finished 12th in the 200 yard IM in a time of 2:19.23.

Continuing on the action was an 11th and 12th place finish in the 200 yard freestyle by Emily Wilson and Amanda Reeter in times of 2:02.45 and 2:03.94 respectively.

Sydney Perks also continued her strong start to the season, finishing 11th in the 500 yard freestyle in a final time of 5:31.36.

Maya Imperial also had a strong performance, finishing 10th in the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:15.61.

The Leopards return to action on Friday, November 22nd with a dual meet against rival Lehigh away at 6:00 PM EST.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Facing strong competition in the Patriot League, the American University men’s and women’s swim and dive teams came away with just one team win but some strong individual performances.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Liam Riebling stole the show for AU, earning a win and two runner-up finishes.
  • Riebling won the 100 butterfly in 49.88, a career-best time that also ranks as the seventh-best time in program history in that event.
  • Right behind Riebling in the 100 fly was sophomore Yannick Bohbot-Dridi in second place with a time of 52.36.
  • In the 200 butterfly, Riebling placed second in 1:52.80.
  • He later earned his second runner-up finish in the 200 individual medley, posting a time of 1:59.34.
  • On the 1-meter board, Christian Hernandez took third for the men’s team with a score of 150.55.
  • As a team, the women defeated Lafayette 160-129.
  • The Eagles fell to the other teams in the overall scoring, with the men losing vs. Navy, Bucknell and Lafayette and the women falling to Bucknell and Navy.

UP NEXT

  • After a weekend off, both teams will head to the George Mason Invitational from Nov. 21-23.
