Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Plymouth Witemarsh Aquatic Club’s Gabi Abruzzo will join the Penn State Nittany Lions women’s program in the fall of 2026.
I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Penn State University!! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for helping me get to this point!! WE ARE!!
As a junior at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, Abruzzo won the girls’ 100 butterfly at the National Catholic High School Championships in January, touching in 56.50. She added a 3rd place finish in the 100 backstroke in 58.13.
Abruzzo had an impressive showing at the PV Nations Capital Invitational this past December, setting new lifetime bests in the 200 free (1:52.36) and 200 fly (2:02.48). She also added a 55.93 in the 100 fly (just off her best of 55.73 from February of 2024).
She holds lifetime best times from each of the last three editions of the Middle Atlantic Senior Championships. Her 2023 showing produced her fastest 400 IM performance, when she clocked 4:29.66. In 2024, she set new personal all-time standards in the 100 back (56.76) and 200 back (2:03.38). Most recently, setting best times in the 50 free (25.12) and 100 free (52.36) in 2025.
Best Times SCY:
- 100 Free: 52.36
- 100 Fly: 55.73
- 100 Back: 56.75
- 200 Free: 1:52.36
- 200 Fly: 2:03.48
- 200 Back: 2:03.48
- 400 IM: 4:29.66
- 500 Free: 5:01.64
The Penn State women finished 12th at the 2025 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships last season. Based on Abruzzo’s best times, she would have finished 38th in the 200 back, 57th in the 200 free, and 51st in the 500 free.
Abruzzo is clearly a very diverse talent and a utilitarian pickup for this Penn State team. She has consistently progressed year over year, showing plenty of potential for a Nittany Lions team that is eager to move up in the Big Ten Conference.
Gabi comes from a family of Division I swimmers. Her brother, Andrew, swam for five years at Georgia; her sister, Mia, recently graduated after four seasons with the Bulldogs; and her younger sister, Tori, will make her collegiate debut at South Carolina this year.
Penn State’s 2026 recruiting class includes Kate Fedor and Hannah Wilson.
