MIT Men Win 12th, Women Earn 10th Consecutive NEWMAC Championship

NEW ENGLAND WOMEN’S AND MEN’S ATHLETIC CONFERENCE (NEWMAC) – MEN AND WOMEN

WOMEN

Cambridge, Mass. – Host MIT claimed its 10th consecutive New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship on Sunday night inside the MIT Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool. The title also marks the 10th year the MIT men’s and women’s programs have taken home the hardware.

The champions accumulated 1,356.5 points. Wheaton College was next (887), followed by WPI (645), and Wellesley College (625.5). Springfield College finished fifth (623) while the U.S. Coast Guard Academy was next with 556.5 points. Babson College (343.5), Smith College (329), Mount Holyoke College (267), and Clark University (160) rounded out the seventh through 10th spots.

The 2020 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships will be conducted March 18-21 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Prior to that, qualified divers will head to Springfield College on February 28-29 for the NCAA Division III Diving Regional while swimmers await the first round of invites set to be revealed on Wednesday, Feb. 26 on NCAA.com. The final list is slated for Monday, March 2, also on NCAA.com.

Cambridge, Mass. – Host MIT secured its 12th consecutive New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship on Sunday night inside the MIT Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool. The Engineers have now won 15 of the 22 titles since the conference began sponsoring men’s sports. It also marks the 10th straight year the MIT men’s and women’s programs have taken home the hardware.

MIT posted 1,535 points and were joined in the top three by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (1,128.5) and WPI (868.5). Springfield College took fourth (467) followed by Babson College (463), Wheaton College (415) and Clark University (258).

Beyond the meet results: Bouke Edskes set the national record with a 49.18 in 100-yard IM time trial. The previous record was 49.23 set by Collin Miller of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the Rochester Invitational on Dec. 7, 2019.
