SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri State swimming and diving team combined for 26 victories across the relay, individual, and diving events, sweeping conference rival Evansville Saturday afternoon at Hammons Student Center Pool. The MSU women cruised to a 141-100 win, while the men’s team earned a sizable 144-82 decision.

“The goal today was seeing a good attitude and effort, which I thought the team accomplished,” said Coach Dave Collins. “As we head into the closing stretch of the season, we’ll focus on details and fine tuning skills to be better for championship competition.”

Trio Libby HowellAnna Miller, and Sydney Radloff paced the Bears, producing two individual victories apiece to lead the team. Howell claimed titles in the 200 (1:52.49) and 500 (5:07.13) freestyle events, while Miller tacked on wins in the 50 free (24.00) and 100 fly (57.45). Radloff rounded out the group, adding a 200 IM (2:08.13) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.62) first-place finish to her resume.

“The team performed well coming off a couple tough weeks of training,” said Radloff. “I am extremely happy to be able to pick up a couple wins as we head into the final meets of the season.”

Ellie Southward clinched the top spot in the 100 backstroke (56.98), marking her first career win as a Bear. Newcomer Hannah Amelung also took home an individual win in the 100 free (53.47).

“It was exciting to earn my first career win as a Bear today,” said Southward. “The positivity and support of my teammates made the moment all that more special.”

MSU continued its dominance in the diving portion, sweeping the 1- and 3-meter boards. Ashley Yarbrough earned first on the high dive (278.92) while Dayana Popa finished on top in the 1-meter (246.68) competition.

MSU Men 144, Evansville 82

The MSU men had a solid all-around effort, as seven different Bears earned an individual title in the home win. Michael Hampel and Pawel Krawczyk paced the Bears, as Hampel picked up wins in the 100 breast (57.56) and 200 IM (1:55.49) while Krawczyk claimed the 200 free (1:42.00) and 500 free (4:38.96).

Antonio Thomas set the tone for the afternoon with a victory in the 1000 free (9:27.97) race to begin the individual portion. Samuel Senn continued the freestyle events with a win in the 50 free (21.59), while Arthur Cury’s first-place finish in the 100 free (47.40) capped the Bears’ freestyle victors.

Thomas Heye recorded the 100 backstroke title (51.70), while Jacob Schultz’s 100 fly (51.22) victory capped the Bears’ dual winners.

“We did a good job powering through and earning a conference win,” said Heye. “It’ll be fun to focus on times as we head into the conference championship.”

Michael Claunch swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events for the Bears, earning a 256.08 score on the 1-meter and edging teammate John David Spence on the 3-meter at 283.50.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Evansville men’s and women’s swimming and diving team opened the spring half of the season at conference rival Missouri State.

As a squad the Aces scored 100 team points on the women’s side and 82 on the men’s.

With two second place finishes, Maya Cunningham finished the 200-yard IM in 2:12.57, while taking down the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.99.

In the distance swims Ashton Adams took third place in two events, with a 5:29.89 500-yard freestyle and a 11:11.42 1000-yard freestyle.

Austin Smith took second place in the 1000-yard freestyle at 10:12.14, while also being the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Eli James captured third place in the 50-yard freestyle at 22.39 pace, while also adding a second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke (59.45).

On the diving side, Natalie Gerard led the way with a pair of second place finishes, marking a 228.52 1-meter score and a 238.35 3-meter score.

The Purple Aces are back in action with a men’s only meet on Jan. 17 against Ball State hosted at Wyttenbach Pool, while both squads will compete on Jan. 18 at Saint Louis.
