Fresno State Women Top Cal Poly 176-124 For Fourth Straight Win

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Fresno State swimming and diving team won its fourth straight dual meet with a 176-124 win over Cal Poly.

Junior Darina Khisiamova led the Bulldogs in the pool with three first place finishes. Sophomore Yuliya Tykha shined on the boards with two first place finishes.

“I was very pleased with our swimming and diving today,” head coach Jeanne Fleck said. “We came off two weeks of really hard training and hadn’t completed in a month. It is great to start off the new decade with a win!”

Fresno State improves to 4-1 on the season.

Swimming Highlights:

  • Fresno State (Moers, Mendolicchio, Harbert, Bowen) took first place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.29.
  • In the 1000 free, Darina Khisiamova took first place (10:19.07) and Morgan Coddington finished third (10:38.97).
  • In the 200 free, Megan Bowen finished in second place with a time of 1:55.53.
  • In the 100 backstroke, Fresno State took two of the top three places with Athena Clayson (57.21) in first and Anna Moers (59.05) in third.
  • In the 100 backstroke, Fresno State took two of the top three places with Manuela Mendolicchio (1:03.86) in first and Megan Ridenour in third (1:06.47).
  • In the 200 butterfly, Kim Harbert had a first place finish with a time of 2:04.52.
  • In the 50 free, Athena Clayson finished second with a time of 24.63.
  • In the 100 free, Megan Bowen logged a second place finish with a time of 53.54.
  • In the 200 back, Fresno State took all three of the top spots. Clayson (2:03.34) took first place, Emily Cutler (2:07.34) finished second and Marissa Johnson (2:08.78) finished third.
  • In the 200 breaststroke, Fresno State took two of the top three spots with Mendolicchio (2:16.06) in first and Lucy Davies (2:22.77) in third.
  • In the 500 free, Khisiamova finished in first place with a time of 5:04.71.
  • In the 100 butterfly, Harbert took second with a time of 56.87.
  • In the 400 IM, Khisiamova logged a first place finish with a time of 2:26.52.
  • In the 400 free relay, Fresno State (Clayson, Guryeva, Johnson, Harbert) took first place with a time of 3:34.45.

Diving Highlights:

  • On the 1 meter, Yuliya Tykha took first place (255.68) and Irina Nikolaeva finished third (223.43).
  • On the 3 meter, Tykha (275.55) logged a first place finish and Nikolaeva took second (262.20).

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Freshman swimmer Erin Kim won two individual events, and junior Stephanie Backlund as well as senior Emily Peters each won an event, but the Cal Poly women’s swimming and diving team fell on Saturday to Fresno State, 176-124.

Kim won both the 100-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly in front of the home crowd at Anderson Aquatic Center. She first won the 100 free after finishing with a time of 53.26, which is the fastest time by a Mustang in the event this season. She later won the 100 fly with a time of 56.30 to end the meet with her first two individual wins of her Cal Poly career.

Peters won the 50 free after finishing the event with a time of 24.37. That is her second-fastest swim in that event this season.

Backlund won Cal Poly’s first event of the meet with a win in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.42. That time is Backlund’s second-fastest time in that event this season and the fourth-fastest time by a Mustang this season.

Cal Poly’s diving team will be back in action at the UCLA Diving Invitational from Jan. 17-19 while swimming next competes when the Mustangs host UC Santa Cruz at Anderson Aquatic Center on Saturday, Jan. 25 at noon.
