The 2026 South Australian State Open Championships are nearly upon us, with action kicking off from the South Australia Aquatic & Leisure Centre on Friday, January 16th.

Although recently married South Aussie big gun Kyle Chalmers is not entered in the three-day competition, we’ll see plenty of other talent, including his Marion teammate Matt Temple.

26-year-old Temple is set to take on the 200m butterfly among his events, with the Olympian facing 16-year-old Haku Saito in that race.

In fact, Japan has multiple medal contender attending the meet, including 19-year-old Olympian Mio Narita.

The 6th-place finisher in the 400m IM at the 2024 Olympic Games leads a young domestic contingent, with teammates Rio Suzuki and 14-year-old Ren Taniguchi joining the party.

From the home front, versatile Brittany Castelluzzo of Tea Tree Gully is expected to race, along with William Petric.

21-year-old Petric is coming off of a successful Lorne Pier to Pub open water race, where the IM specialist finished the 1.2k distance in the bronze medal position.

Additional contestants entered in these championships including 20-year-old distance swimmer Molly Walker and Nunawading’s Isabella Boyd.
