What a meet this was in Minnesota.
Last month, two high school powerhouses in girls swimming and diving, Minnetonka and Edina, hooked up for a dual that was decided by just two points.
Ultimately, defending Class AA state champion Minnetonka earned a 94-92 triumph over Edina, the state runner-up last year in Class AA to Minnetonka. Class AA is the largest classification in Minnesota.
The dual was a likely prelude to what should be another battle between the programs at the state championships come November.
Last season, Minnetonka prevailed over Edina by 25 points to win its fourth Class AA state title in school history. Edina has won 19 state championships since 1984, including consecutive crowns in 2022 and 2023.
Minnetonka was led by senior Lydia Cameron, a Virginia Tech commit who won the 200 free (1:53.08) and 500 free (5:12.22).
Sophomore Claire Wilkey turned in another strong performance for Minnetonka, winning the 100 free in a time of 51.77 and swimming leadoff for the 200 medley relay team that won in a time of 1:46.79. Other team members were Vivian Schott, Annika Graham and Bri Harvey.
Minnetonka also got a victory in diving from Alexa Ulanoski, who won that event with 258.10 points.
Edina was led by senior and Minnesota commit Libbi McCarthy, who won two individual events and was a part of two winning relay teams.
McCarthy won the 50 free (23.39) and 100 fly (57.26), and swam the third leg on both the 200 free and 400 free relay teams that finished first.
Megan Greenberg, Macy Malinski and Amira Nguyen-Ingalsbe were the other team members in the 200 free relay, while Malinski, Audrey Peterson and Bobbi Simmons were the others on the 400 free relay team.
Simmons, a sophomore, also shined for Edina, winning the 100 back (57.16) and the 200 IM (2:06.71).
The other event winner for Edina was Nguyen-Ingalsbe, who took the 100 breast in 1:07.07.

Nothing beats a 94-92 duel meet! Thanks for covering this, and you were spot on, the Championship Meet appeared to be a classic.
