The 3rd day of the 2025 Summer Sectionals meet in Minneapolis is now in the books. After cracking the Illinois 17-18 boys state record in the 200 free on Friday night, FMC Aquatic Club 18-year-old Max Goettsch won the men’s 400 free in 3:59.10. The rising Cal freshman shattered his previous best of 4:05.53, which he set two weeks ago at the CW Eric Namesnik Memorial Open. Last night, he was out pretty fast, splitting 1:56.68 on the opening 200m, then came home in 2:02.42.
It was Minnesota’s Katie McCarthy who won the women’s 400 free, swimming a 4:13.25. That time comes in 2 seconds off McCarthy’s career best of 4:11.57, which she swam at US Nationals early last month.
In the women’s 200 back, Schroeder YMCA Swim Team 15-year-old Maggie Dickinson clocked a 2:14.03 to win the race. She was out fast, splitting 1:04.85 on the opening 100, then came home in 1:09.18. Dickinson holds a personal best of 2:12.76, which she swam last summer.
Minnesota’s Ryan Slonac won the men’s 200 back in 2:01.39. Slonac set his career best of 2:00.07 in a time trial at US Nationals last month. Northeastern Swim Team 18-year-old Aiden Gerst came in 2nd with a 2:02.18. A rising freshman at Cincinnati, Gerst was just off his personal best of 2:01.73, which he swam back in February.
Minnesota’s Claire Reinke won the women’s 100 fly in 1:00.01. That performance marks a career best for Reinke, taking half a second off her previous best of 1:00.64. Edina Swim Club 16-year-old Faith Lamah came in 2nd with a 1:00.90. That swim marks the Minnesota Class of 2026 recruit’s first time under 1:01 in the event.
Aquajets Swim Team 18-year-old Micah Davis won the men’s 100 fly in 53.95. A rising freshman at Virginia, Davis holds a career best of 53.49, which he swam a few weeks ago.
WEST Express Swim Team 18-year-old Jack Hackler claimed victory in the men’s 100 breast, swimming a 1:02.42. Another Minnesota recruit, Hackler took nearly half a second off his career best of 1:02.84, which he set last summer. Coming in 2nd was Hornet Swim Club 17-year-old Matt Vatev, who swam a 1:02.80. Vatev holds a personal best of 1:02.49, which he swam at US Nationals last month.
In the women’s 100 breast, Iowa State’s Gabrielle LePine, who is competing for Schroeder Y, clocked a 1:11.41 to win. LePine holds a career best of 1:10.60. Iowa State’s Anja Peck came in 2nd, swimming a 1:11.97. For Peck, that swim marks a new personal best and her first time under 1:12.

Gabrielle no longer swims for Iowa state. She swims for UWM #gopanthers
