The Midland University swimming team has announced Joseph Berrick as the program’s first official recruit. The Lincoln, Nebraska native will attend Midland and swim for the Warriors during their inaugural 2017-18 season.

“We are very excited to have Joseph as our first signee for the swimming team,” said head coach Ryan Bubb. “He is versatile and can swim a range of events which will be helpful in year one as we build the program. Above all, through the recruiting process and talking with Joseph, his parents and former coaches, I have come to find him to be an outstanding young man with great character and as a leader in and out of the pool.”

Berrick holds records at Pius X High School in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 100 breaststroke. He was a state qualifier in 2016 and is the team captain during his senior season.

Along with swimming for the Thunder Bolts at Pius X, Berrick has been a member of the Club Husker swim team in Lincoln for the past four years.

Joseph is the son of John and Kathy Berrick.

“I chose to continue my education and swimming career at Midland because I felt at home immediately upon visiting campus the first time,” Joseph said. “I am excited to be a part of the new swim program from the ground up and learn from Coach Bubb.”

The Midland swim & dive team will compete at the Dillon Family YMCA Aquatic Center which is currently being constructed in Fremont.
