Michigan high school state finalist Ewan Todd has announced his commitment to swim for the University of Maine beginning in the fall of 2026. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m excited to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Maine! I’d like to thank my coaches, and family for their support. Thank you to Coach Lizzotte and Coach Costello for the opportunity! Go Black Bears!
A senior at Riverview Community High School in Riverview, MI, Todd has been a member of his school’s varsity swimming and diving team since his freshman year. He also currently swims year-round with Club Wolverine, where he primarily specializes in breaststroke and IM.
Todd most recently competed at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division III State Championships, placing fourth in the 100 breast (59.13) and fifth in the 200 IM (1:58.46) with his current personal bests. He also helped Riverview secure fifth in the 200 free relay with a lifetime-best 21.62 leadoff and split 27.05 on the breast leg of the sixth-place 200 medley relay.
It was his best overall performance at the meet to date, capping a steady progression through his high school career. As a junior he took fifth in the 100 breast in a then-personal-best 59.23 and 10th in the 100 free (48.56), as a sophomore 10th in the 100 breast (59.99) and 11th in the 100 free (48.70), and as a freshman 13th in the 100 breast (1:01.92) and 22nd in the 100 free (50.44). Riverview also improved as a team each year he was on the roster, rising from 21st his freshman year to 13th as a sophomore before cracking the top ten his junior and senior seasons.
He’s been hovering at the 59-second mark in the 100 breast for the past 2.5 years, but has found a new gear in the 200s over the past 12 months, dropping from 2:16.42 to 2:12.83 in the 200 breast and from 2:01.53 to 1:58.46 in the 200 IM. His best club meet of the past year was the FMC Speedo Grand Challenge in November, where he swam his current 200 breast best, and also clocked personal bests in a slew of off-events, including 21.94 in the 50 free and 53.67 in the 100 back.

- 200 Breaststroke: 2:12.83
- 200 IM: 1:58.46
A Division I Mid-Major program, Maine competes in the America East, with the men’s team placing sixth out of six teams at the conference championships a few weeks ago. Based on the results from the meet, Todd would have landed in the ‘B’ final in the 100 breast, giving him a chance to score some points right from the start. Meanwhile, it took times of 2:07.34 and 1:54.22 to earn a second swim in the 200s of breast and IM, putting Todd outside the cutoff in those races.
His arrival is timely for the breaststroke group, as the Bears are losing their top two all-around breaststrokers to graduation in Nate Teerlinck (54.54/2:04.61) and Jesse Lower (54.72/2:07.51). On the team’s projected 2026-27 depth chart, when factoring in graduations and incoming recruits, Todd is set to rank fourth in the 100 and 200 breast and sixth in the 200 IM, bringing added depth to the roster.
Joining Todd in the pool this fall will be fellow breaststrokers Andrew Konkle (58.37/2:18.42) and Zane Rogers (59.73/2:19.63), as well as middle-distance freestyler Liam Walsh, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
With his commitment, Todd is slated to be the first Riverview swimmer to compete at the Division I level since 1999.
