Miami University Swimming Edge Butler University

Miami University Swimming vs Butler University MEET RESULTS

Miami University women’s swim team climbed back to .500 after winning every event against Butler University en route to a 134-106 decision at the Nixon Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon.

It was a day full of first collegiate wins for five of Miami’s freshman swimmers. Rachel Baker swam a time of 2:08.68 in the 200-yard backstroke for the win, and Ana Maria Castellanos won the 200-yard butterfly, clocking in at 2:12.06. Casey Frazier’s time of 2:11.12 got her the win in the 200-yard IM, while Lainey Massaro timed in at 1:07.45 to win the 100-yard breaststroke. A 100-yard butterfly time of 57.95 was good enough to give Holly Schuster the first-place finish.

No RedHawk won more than one individual race, making it a complete team effort. Sophomore Brittany Dudzinski touched the wall in 53.92 to win the 100-yard freestyle. A time of 2:25.29 pushed junior Aubrey Kluth to a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. Freshman Katherine Kuhl clocked in at 24.17 for the win in the 50-yard freestyle. The 100-yard backstroke was won by sophomore Stephanie LeMire with a time of 1:00.21. Touching the wall in 17:13.23 in the 1650-yard freestyle was senior Stephanie Pearce. She finished over a minute and a half faster than the fastest Butler swimmer. Junior Kelly Rogers won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:14.04.

The 200-yard medley relay winning team consisted of senior Katie Bootsma, Stephanie LeMire, freshman Morgan Quesnel and senior Emma Craig. They clocked in with a time of 1:47.84. The RedHawks also won the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:53.55. The team consisted of junior Sara Krueger, freshman Abigail Schirmer, Emma Craig, and junior Stephanie Nemeth.

Head Coach Mark Davis was pleased with his team’s effort. “I thought Casey Frazier and Holly Schuster had a good meet. It was cool to see Katie Kuhl get a win in the 50-yard free. Lainey got her first win in the 100 breast. It was good to see them stepping up and going after that. We talked about trying some different things this week and got to see some good stuff today, so I was real happy with the girls’ effort.”

The RedHawks now have nearly a month-long break before the Miami Invitational, which takes place from Dec. 4-6 in the Nixon Aquatic Center.
