Miami RedHawks Secure Verbal from Winter Juniors Qualifier Lauren Murray

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Lauren Murray, a rising senior at J. L. Mann High School in Greenville, South Carolina, has announced her intention to swim at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio beginning in the 2021-22 school year.

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Miami University. Thank you to my coaches, teammates, and family for supporting me and getting me to where I am today. Go Redhawks!! 🦅❤️”

In her three years of high school swimming, Murray has won the 500 free once and been runner-up twice at the South Carolina SCHSL 5A State Championships. As a freshman in the fall of 2017, she finished 2nd in the 500 free (5:10.40) and 7th in the 100 back (59.36). The following year she won the 5A state title in the 500 (5:06.24) and again posted a 7th in the back (59.74). Last fall she was 2nd in the 500 (5:08.16) and fell to 16th in the back (1:02.75).

In club swimming, where she represents Team Greenville, Murray is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 200 back and a Futures qualifier in the 500/1000 free, 100 back, and 400 IM. Between last summer’s South Carolina LSC Long Course State Championships and the NCSA Summer Championship, she turned in a series of lifetime best performances in the LCM 200 free (2:10.19), 400 free (4:32.12), 800 free (9:16.74), 1500 free (18:03.28), 200 IM (2:30.86), and 400 IM (5:10.61). She earned PBs in the 200/500/1000 free and 400 IM at 2019 Raleigh Sectionals last spring, finishing in the top-16 of the 500, 1000, and 400 IM.

Top SCY times:

  • 200 back – 2:03.40
  • 100 back – 57.80
  • 400 IM – 4:29.32
  • 200 free – 1:54.27
  • 500 free – 5:00.50
  • 1000 free – 10:15.53
  • 1650 free – 17:47.00

Miami finished 4th of 8 teams at the 2020 MAC Women’s Championships. She would have made the B final in the 400 IM and would have been close in to scoring in the 500 free (it took 1:51.95/4:59.43/17:39.78 to make top-16 in the 200/500/1650 freestyles). It took 56.25/2:01.74 to score in the backstroke events at conference this season. Maggie Stock and Emily Rinker have also announced their verbal commitments to Miami for 2021-22.
