Maxime Grousset on 100 Fly: “I will beat the time of Caeleb, I hope”

2026 PRO SWIM SERIES – AUSTIN

Video captured by Anya Pelshaw.

World Champion Maxime Grousset took a decisive win in the 100 Fly in Austin tonight, touching in 50.95, the only swimmer under the 51-second barrier. Grousset beat the reigning world record holder, Caeleb Dressel, in the final. Dressel touched for 2nd in 51.62.

Grousset was clear about his goals moving forward into this season: He wants to undercut Caeleb Dressel’s world record in the 100 fly (he was .17 away last summer), and he wants revenge at the European Championships in Paris, the same city where he missed winning an individual Olympic medal in 2024.

Pretty bold aim for somebody who has broken 50 seconds only that once….

Would LOVE to see him get the WR. Maybe he’ll have a shot at the 50 Fly WR at some point too?

Don’t remember Dressel says what he was gong to do or how fast he was going to swim UNTIL after he swam great races. Dressel was always humble. An amazing guy.

If he doesn’t start to decline at 25-26 like Dressel did.

Tani

well he is already 26 and he set best times last month in 2 LC freestyle events and hit PB in the butterfly events in Singapore, so hopefully not…

Yeah, I think he will have no trouble getting an individual medal at Europeans. I know the men’s side of that competition will be really tough, but given his performance at Worlds I think he’s in a good position. I like hearing him say he’s aiming for Dressel’s WR. Love hearing that ambition. Looking forward to seeing him and Ponti battle it out in those fly races.

Yes he has some chance like Ponti too.
For 50 fly, I don’t know but if him and Noe push themselves, why not ?

Not the same pool.

The European LCM championships will take place in the “Centre Aquatique Olympique Métropole du Grand Paris” not the temporary pool in Paris la défense arena in 2024.

Yes! You are correct. Good luck Maxime!! So unfortunate that the Olympics didn’t go as well as they could have, but hopefully LA will be a great games for him.

And all the better I would add. Swimming in a fast 3m pool (adaptable I believe) is more entertaining than the quite temporary shallow pool from Paris 2024.
