Mary T. Wins 3, Jen Mihalik Breaks a World Record at Georgia Masters Meet

2025 Augusta Blue Tides Dog Days of Summer (Masters Meet)

Olympic swimming legend Mary T. Meagher, now racing as Mary Plant, won all three of her events at a small Masters meet in Augusta, Georgia two weeks ago.

This is her third officially-recorded meet since her return to racing in the 60-64 age group in Masters swimming. Swimming all three butterfly races, the events for which she is best known, Plant led her age group in the 50 fly (31.27), 100 fly (1:09.59), and 200 fly (2:45.99).

In her last meet in March, she recorded times of 28.34, 1:04.03, and 2:29.84 in the yards versions of those races, but these swims are her first recorded long course swims since retiring from professional swimming.

According to the official USMS database, they rank #1 in the country in her age group by 2.5, 12.7, and 25.5 seconds, respectively.

While Plant didn’t swim at the USMS National Championships, if the results are sanctioned she still could earn All-America and Top 10 certificates.

Plant wasn’t the only standout swimmer at the meet. Jen Mihalik broke the Masters’ World Record in the 100 meter backstroke for the 45-49 age group in 1:06.97. Mihalik, 47, also didn’t race at USMS Nationals, though her time would have won by almost three seconds, nor the overlapping Masters World Championships, where she would have won by even more.

If ratified, that swim undercuts the prior World Record of 1:07.04 set by Great Britain’s Joanna Corben in 2019 at 1:07.04.

On a Sunday morning Mary T came to Bloomington to get filmed by Doc. We were getting filmed first as part of our weekly routine and so she was doing a workout. She started swimming butterfly and almost 2 hours of our being filmed and analyzed later she was still doing butterfly. As a Big Ten silver medalist in 200 Fly I was in awe !

Oh my gosh, Mary Ts times without a tech suit! She would have had the world records in the 1&200 if she had worn one! See which brand scrambles the fastest to get her in theirs!
