Marrit Steenbergen Becomes First Repeat World Champion From Doha To Singapore

2025 World Championships

The women’s 100m freestyle final was the first event of night six of the 2025 World Championships.

Dutch national record holder Marrit Steenbergen stopped the clock at a time of 52.55 to get the job done ahead of Australian 200m free champion here Mollie O’Callaghan

O’Callaghan of Australia posted a silver medal-worthy time of 52.67 while American Torri Huske wrangled up the bronze in 52.89.

Steenbergen opened in 25.34 and roared home in a final 50m of 27.21 to get the job done.

As for 25-year-old Steenbergen, the versatile ace successfully defended her 100m freestyle title from the 2024 World Championships in Doha.

In fact, the Dutch sprinter becomes our first repeat champion from Doha.

Steenbergen was quicker last year, reaping gold in a new national record of 52.26.

It’s important to note that the 2024 World Championships were much less attended than this year’s edition, as Doha’s competition was inserted in the schedule just months ahead of the Paris Olympics.

Leon Marchand of France, Summer McIntosh of Canada and Katie Ledecky of the United States were some of the big guns who opted out of that competition.
