All-Time Top 17-18, Boys LCM 800 Free

  1. Luke Whitlock, 7:45.19, 2024
  2. Luka Mijatovic, 7:47.08, 2026
  3. Larsen Jensen, 7:48.09, 2003

Mijatovic dropped 1.20 seconds off his previous lifetime best of a 7:48.28 that he swam in December at the US Open. That swim was a 15-16 National Age Group (NAG) record. Mijatovic has now aged up into the 17-18 age group and sits less than two seconds off of the NAG record.

Just last night, Mijatovic swam to his first 17-18 NAG record with a 3:45.20 400 freestyle. That also was a best time. He also swam a best time in the 1500 free with a 14:59.27 1500 free this week.

Mijatovic will not represent the U.S. later this summer at the 2026 Pan Pac Championships but currently sits as the fastest American so far this season in the 400, 800, and 1500 freestyles. His 800 free now sits at #8 in the world this season as well.

Are you sure Luka swam 500 day before?

Does anyone know what Lorenzo Galossi is up to these days? He is the junior record holder for the LCM 800 – he swam 7:43.47 at the age of 16. He was hailed as the next great and then I’m not sure what happened to this young Italian swimmer.

Wasn’t he injured or something?

Injury and burnout saw him at altitude a while back

He went 3:58.30 in the 400 at the Italian National Championships last month. He went 3:45.93 at age 15.

Alas he was never the same after catching mononucleosis and, I believe, going through some personal issues which have never been made public.

Why is Wiffen at CAL.

They should have been faster last year to qualify for a meet this year. This sport is done for

Honestly, not sure why we waste our time. If we just crown the 2028 Olympic Champs now, we’d save a whole lot of time and money in 2 years.

I mean not that I like this system but idk if it’s any more done for than it was in 2019 or 2015 or 2011 or 2007 or 2003

Do you remember 2015 though? Worlds sucked, MP (rightfully out) times were dark then

I’ll give this 10/10 if you tell me it is sarcasm.

OR – everyone should have qualified at Nationals, when it mattered. And not at some meet that no one attended, with zero pressure. How about that?!

Luka qualified at nationals. He got very ill at training trip, and lost 20 pounds (still think the idea of going to Thailand for a training trip was horrible USAS). He would’ve qualified for pan pacs this year in the 400 and 800 at least and would’ve been a contender for the 1500 and the 4 x 200 relay. This is why you don’t pick a team a year in advance

Swimmer of the meet hands down.

He’s likely to break 800 WJR before 400 WJR

I kind of agree. He’s 2.5 seconds from the WJR in the 400, 3.5 seconds in the 800. I think his 800 has looked a bit better than his 400 this season too
