Lots of NCAA Jobs Still Available As Students Prepare to Return to Campuses

With most college athletes starting to return to campus, resume classes, and most importantly restart training in the next few weeks, there are still a ton of NCAA jobs left, including several at the Division I level. This happens every year, as dominoes fall and coaches move one-by-one up the ladder, but every school’s goal is to not be at the end of that chain, and have to scramble for an assistant at the last minute.

Though many of these jobs may have been filled or already are in the interview stages, there are still a ton of D1 and other level positions open through the NCAA’s job market site. That includes the position of head diving coach at Virginia, which will now officially see a full staff turnover from the Mark Bernardino-led team last year.

Below, we’ve listed the most interesting ones, and included where we were able what happened to the old holder of that position.

Division I

SMU Men – Assistant (former assistant Andy Kershaw took the head coaching job at Miami
LSU Men & Women – Assistant (former assistant Cory Chitwood took same job at Virginia)
Brown Men & Women – Assistant (former assistant Temujin Gold took assistant job at Arizona Gold) – Filled
College of William & Mary Men & Women – Assistant
Seton Hall Men & Women – Assistant (Kara Lennon left program, unsure of why)
Wright State Men & Women – Assistant (former assistant Kyle Oaks promoted to head coach)
Marist College Men & Women – Grad Assistant
Virginia – Head Diving Coach (full staff turnover)
Miami – Assistant (full staff turnover)
Ball State – Graduate Assistant

Division II

UT-Permian Basin Men & Women – HEAD COACH (Uncertain, Rob Rankin still listed as head coach)
Malone University Men & Women – Graduate Assistant (new staff under Devin Murphy)

Division III

Vassar College Men & Women – Assistant
Austin College Men & Women – HEAD COACH (former head coach Brian Wright took position on faculty of DePauw University)
Oberlin College Men & Women – HEAD COACH (Mark Fino hired by John Carroll University this week)
Albright College Men & Women – Assistant & Assistant Aquatics Director

And, in case you’re looking for a job at one of the most scenic pools in the country where there’s tons of fast swimming every year, Mt. Hood Community College is looking for an Aquatics Director.

Other jobs that should be available, though they may not be listed on the NCAA Marketplace site:

Harvard needs an assistant – Filled
Penn State has a staff to fill out (many of their assistants have already taken other jobs)
James Madison Head Coach (former coach Samantha Smith retired in June)
Rich Murphy needs a new assistant at the University of Houston
Wisconsin-River Falls needs a new head coach (Ryan Hawke took the same job at Hamline)

Brayden it would be great if you or someone else on the swimswam team could throw together a spread sheet of what jobs opened up this summer and where those coaches moved to. Kinda like what some sites do for professional sports roster movements.

Just a thought, but I think most of us would be interested to see, in one place, where coaches are moving and where they are coming to schools from

Regarding the UT-Permian Basin position, I heard that the position is open, and that Rob Rankin left the program quite suddenly.
