Liberty Lady Flames Win Double Dual Meet in Texas

The Mean Green of North Texas hosted a double dual meet this morning in Denton, Texas. They were joined in the water by Liberty University and the University of the Incarnate Word. The latter two teams were fresh off a double dual hosted by TCU in Fort Worth, and for Liberty, the weekend ended up 4-0 in their first ever road trip to the state of Texas.

Liberty’s Lady Flames started the meet off this morning with a strong showing by Victoria Tschoke, Rickilee Hodges, Prudence Rooker, and Rachl Hoeve, who took first in the 200 Medley Relay, touching in 1:47.28. This was half a second faster and whole place higher than the Liberty relay finished the night before against TCU. The Mean Green A & B teams finished out the top three. Liberty also finished first in the only freestyle relay that was contested today- the 400.

The Lady Flames also picked up seven individual event wins. Kristin VanDevnter, the senior that hails from Indiana, swept the distance free style events (500 5:06.68, 1000 free 10:26.68) which her teammate Kendall Hough took the shorter events (50 23.97, 100 51.79). Other event winners for the Lady Flames included:  Prudence Rooker (200 IM), Alicia Finnigan (200 fly), and Victoria Tschoke (200 back) earned one win apiece. Liberty swept the top three spots in two events, the 200 IM and the 500 free.

Although there were no team victories for Incarnate Word Cardinals, Mallory Draper took first in the 1m dive with a score of 231.38.  The other individual event win for the Cardinals went to Daria Makieieva, who took the 200 breast in 2:20.87. The junior from the Ukraine also took 4th in the 20o IM.

The hosts of the meet had event wins in the 200 free with Isabelle Morris. She also took second in the 100 free in 53.04.

Sophomore Isabelle Morris won first place overall in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.65 and also took first place against Incarnate Word and second overall in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53:04. These finishes contributed to an overall record for the Mean Green of 6-0 all-time in dual meets against Incarnate Word and 0-1 in dual meets against Liberty.

The Lady Flames compete in a dual meet against James Madison next Saturday. The Mean Green will take on the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station on October 23rd. The Cardinals are back in the water on the 15th against Ouachita Baptist.
