Leah Smith’s Family of Sports Icons: GMM presented by SwimOutlet.com

Gold Medal Minute presented by SwimOutlet.com

Leah Smith has great stock! Her great uncle, Billy Conn, was a World Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion. Her great grandfather, Jimmy Smith, was a World Series Champion. Leah’s father, Dan, was a pole vaulter at Virginia. And her sister, Aileen, swims for Columbia.   It should be no surprise Leah started off her Olympic career off with a gold and bronze medal in Rio at the 2016 Olympic Games.

At the 2016 USA College Challenge, Leah was back in action and top form, winning the 500 yard free in 4:32.52.  She took the 1000 yard free in 9:21.54, winning by seven seconds.

Leah’s on the fence about shaving and tapering for 2016 SC Worlds, saving it up for her NCAA Championship challenge with Olympic teammate, Stanford’s Katie Ledecky.
