Kim Woomin Completes Distance Sweep To Close Out Korean Team Trials

2026 KOREAN NATIONAL TEAM TRIALS

The final night of action transpired tonight at the 2026 Korean National Team Trials, the competition that determines the nation’s roster for this year’s prestigious Asian Games.

Olympic bronze medalist Kim Woomin successfully completed his sweep of the men’s distance freestyle events, wrangling up the gold in the 400m free.

24-year-old Kim stopped the clock at 3:46.40 to handily defeat his competitors as the sole swimmer to clear the 3:50 barrier.

Behind him was Yoo Jung-bin, who snagged silver in 3:53.97, followed by Oh Se-beom, who touched in 3:58.35 for bronze.

As for Kim, his effort this evening was on par with his previous season-best of 3:46.61 put up at last December’s Queensland Championships. He remains the 9th-best performer in the world this season.

On the opposite end of the event spectrum, Kim Youngbeom got it done for gold in the 50m free. The 19-year-old registered a winning result of 22.18 to capture the narrow victory ahead of Yang Jae-hoon.

Yang settled for silver just .03 behind in 22.21, while reigning national record holder Ji Yu-chan rounded out the podium in 22.24.

Kim’s effort represents a new lifetime best, while Yang’s time was just off his PB of 22.16 from 2020. Ji’s national record remains at the swift 21.66 posted at last year’s World Championships.

Additional winners on the men’s side included Yang, doubling up events with a gold in the 100m fly in 51.79, the sole outing of the pack under 52 seconds. Kim Minseok was the 400m IM winner in 4:17.43, able to hold off Kim Minseop who was next to the wall less than half a second behind in 4:17.85.

Han Da-kyung completed her sweep of the distance free events on the women’s side, securing gold in the 400m free in 4:10.42. That’s within striking distance of her lifetime best and Korean national standard of 4:09.69 she produced at the Korean National Sports Festival last October.

Here, it was Park Hee-kyung who kept her in check, touching behind in 4:10.60, well ahead of bronze medalist Choi Jeong-min, who finished in 4:19.35 for 3rd place.

An Sehyeon topped the 100m fly podium in 58.73, while Hur Yeonkyung clocked 25.43 to take the women’s 50m free event.
