The Kansas women hosted Houston for a dual meet on Saturday and the meet came down to the final relay as Kansas earned the win 153-147. As a whole, Kansas won the last final events of the meet which helped push them ahead for the win.
Kansas earned the win after winning the 200 free relay to close the meet as the team’s ‘A’ relay of Sophie Wallace, Sarah Blake, Ella Hansen, and Lydia Lafferty swam to a 1:32.24 to touch a second ahead of Houston’s ‘A’ relay that swam to a 1:33.32. Also key to the final race as well was the ‘B’ relay for Kansas as they swam to 3rd in a 1:34.52. 3rd place is a four point swing.
Lafferty also swam to two more wins on the day, winning the 100 butterfly in a 53.00, just four hundredths off of her own school record of a 52.96 that she swam at midseason last month. She also swam as a member of the winning 200 medley relay that touched in a 1:39.89 for the win.
Wallace earned an individual win of her own, touching in a 23.49 in the 50 freestyle. That was just off her season best of a 23.38 that she swam during prelims at midseason. Wallace touched 2nd in the 100 free in a 50.96 in a tight battle with Liya Goupil of Houston who won in a 50.77.
Sophomore Gabi Dyer of Kansas went two for two on the day, winning the 200 free in a 1:49.06 and the 500 free in a 4:52.00. She swam to personal best times of a 1:48.37 and a 4:46.72 in both events at midseason.
The diving events were huge for Kansas as Shiyun Lai won both events, scoring 334.43 points in the 1 meter and 369.23 points in the 3 meter. She was an NCAA All-American in both events this past March as she finished 6th in the 3 meter and 7th in the 1 meter event at the 2025 NCAA Championships.
Leading the way for the Houston women was Elizabeth Jimenez as she swept the backstroke events and led a 1-2-3 finish for Houst0n in the 100 backstroke. Jimenez touched in a 54.98 in the 100 back and a 1:59.37 in the 200 back. She has been as fast as 53.68 in the 100 back and a 1:55.73 in the 200 back this season with both of those times coming at midseason.
Houston also showed their depth in the breaststroke events, with Evelyn Entrekin winning the 100 breast in a 1:01.10 while teammate Flo Peter won the 200 breast in a 2:14.96. Peter notably represented the team at the 2025 NCAA Championships swimming both breaststroke events.
