Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Andi Taylor of Manhattan Beach, California has announced her commitment to swim and study at UCLA, starting in the fall of 2027. She trains year-round with Beach Cities Swimming and attends Mira Costa High School.
Taylor made the announcement on Instagram, writing:
I am extremely grateful and honored to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at UCLA. I want to say thank you to my family for getting me to where I am today due to their constant love and encouragement. Thank you to Beach Cities Alpha and Coach Justin, for their outstanding coaching and unwavering support. Lastly, I want to say thank you to Coach Jordan and Coach Graham for giving me this amazing opportunity, I am so excited to be a part of this team! Go Bruins!!
Taylor, a sprint freestyle specialist who also competes in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, opened her 2024-25 season at Speedo Sectionals in February. She finished 11th in the 50 free in 23.40, slicing her best time by a hundredth, and broke 1:05 for the first time in the 100 breast, stopping the clock in 1:04.58 to place 18th and eclipse her previous best of 1:05.76. She went on to touch 24th in the 100 free (52.22), 41st in the 100 fly (57.51), and 48th in the 200 IM (2:10.34), all a bit off her lifetime bests.
She wrapped up her season at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division Championships in May, where she helped Mira Costa win gold in the 200 medley relay and take runner-up in the 400 free relay. She split 24.94 on the fly leg of the medley and logged 50.27 on leg three of the free relay.
Individually, Taylor hit the wall fourth in the 50 free with her current career best of 23.27 and took 10th in the 100 free in 51.00, chopping six tenths off her previous best of 51.65. Her swims marked a major improvement over her 11th- and 17th-place finishes from the 2024 season.
This summer, Taylor qualified for Junior Nationals, where she posted best times in the 50 LCM free (26.16), 50 LCM fly (28.47) for 57th, and 50 LCM breast (34.28). Her highest result was in the 50 free, where she came 26th, while she took 57th in the 50 fly and 91st in the 50 breast.
Top SCY Times:
- 50 Freestyle: 23.27
- 100 Freestyle: 51.00
- 100 Butterfly: 56.99
- 100 Breaststroke: 1:04.36
The Bruins are led by head coach Jordan Wolfrum, who enters her seventh season at the helm of the program. In their first year in the Big Ten, UCLA took seventh out of 14 teams at the conference championships. The previous season, they had finished fourth at the Pac-12 Championships. They closed their year at NCAAs in Federal Way, Washington, where they placed 37th, scoring 7 points behind junior diver Eden Cheng.
The conference meet scores ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’ finals, and it took times of 22.55 in the 50 free, 49.60 in the 100 free, 53.45 in the 100 fly, and 1:01.68 in the 100 breast to score in 2025. With two full seasons remaining before she arrives in Los Angeles, she’s poised to make an immediate impact if she continues on her improvement trajectory.
On the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Taylor would have ranked seventh in the 50 free, eighth in the 100 breast, 11th in the 100 free, and 16th in the 100 fly. Notably, Alison Su, who boasts times of 22.80 and 49.64 in the sprint freestyles, is the only other publicized recruit in UCLA’s class of 2027 and will help in those departments. The two will likely be a prominent duo on the Bruins’ future sprint relays.
