Italian rising star Sara Curtis posted a top performance during the prelims of the 50 freestyle in Singapore this morning, throwing down a time of 24.41 to break her own national record.
Curtis shaved .02 off of the previous record (24.43), which she set just a few months ago at the 2025 Italian Championships in April. Her swim also marked the 9th-fastest time in the world this season, tying her with Maxine Parker of the United States.
Her record-breaking performance this morning saw her place 3rd overall to advance to semifinals just behind Australia’s Meg Harris and the Netherlands’ Milou Van Wijk.
Curtis, who also holds the Italian record in the 100 free, took 8th in the 100 with a 53.41 earlier this week. She also anchored Italy’s mixed 4×100 medley relay, swimming 52.88 to help her country to a 6th-place finish in the event, and led-off the women’s 4×100 free relay in 53.29 en route to a 7th-place finish in that event.
The 50 free is Curtis’s last shot to win an individual medal at her debut World Championships in Singapore.
