2025 World Para Swimming Championships

The World Para Swimming Championships wrapped up earlier today with 23 medal events on the final day.

Italy passed China to take the top spot on the medal table, winning three gold medals on the final day.

Their first gold came from Simone Barlaam in the men’s 50 freestyle final, where he came out on top of Poland’s Oliwier Kryzyszowski to pick up his fourth gold of the meet.

Directly after that swim Monica Boggioni won the women’s S5 100 free final ahead of Czechia’s Agata Koupilova, earning her fourth gold of the Championships.

Finally, Gabriele Lorenzo won the men’s S3 100 freestyle in a new Championship Record time to take home his 2nd gold medal of the meet.

The United States also saw a massive jump in the rankings, winning four gold medals on the final night of competition to tie with Italy for the most gold medals and move ahead of Ukraine and China.

Ukraine won the most overall medals of the meeting, adding five to their total on the last night of competition to walk home with 49 medals, three more than Italy in 2nd.

When looking at the report of medals by athlete, four swimmers (all women) won five gold medals across all seven days.

Daria Lukianenko (S11) had a near perfect meet, swimming six events and winning gold in five: The 50 free, 100 breast, 200 IM, 100 back, and 400 free. Her only non gold medal was a silver in the women’s 100 free.

Turkey’s Defne Kurt (S10) also won five golds in her five events, the 50 free, 200 IM, 100 fly, 100 free, and 100 back.

Czechia’s David Kratochvil (S11) was the top medalist on the men’s side, bringing home seven total medals, four of which were gold in the 50 free, 100 fly, 100 free, and 400 free.

A US based swimming media platform just praises Italy for winning the Medal Table based on Gold medals, but doesn’t praise the Team USA effort to make it to 2nd Place on the medal table on the last day, except for a single sentence? (Tied for 1st in Gold Medals) Come on now, we can do better than that.
