Illinois High School Swim Coach Resigns Amid Accusations

A high school swim coach in Illinois has resigned as allegations surface about potential inappropriate conduct with a student, Patch.com reports.

Mark Gonzales was a swimming coach at Oak Forest High School in Oak Forest, Illinois. Patch.com reports that Gonzales has resigned amid a police investigation of allegations that he committed inappropriate conduct with a student.

No charges have yet been filed, but Gonzales resigned his position on Friday.

Superintendent Bill Kendall gave a statement to Patch.com, noting that Gonzales would not have access to the school campus during the investigation. This is the full statement:

“The District just recently became aware of these allegations and has conducted an internal investigation into the allegations in addition to cooperating with both the Oak Forest Police Department and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services,” said Superintendent Bill Kendall in a release.

“We will continue to work with these agencies as they continue in their investigations into these allegations. The accused employee has resigned his position with the District and his access to campus was restricted immediately upon these allegations being made. The well-being and safety of our students is of paramount concern to the District and we will continue to work diligently to ensure that our schools provide a safe environment conducive to learning.”
