BOISE, Idaho – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros swimming & diving program broke four more school records at the NW Collegiate Invite, hosted by Idaho, Saturday at the Idaho Central Aquatics Center.
The Vaqueros opened the finals session strong, earning school record times for the “A” and “B” 200 medley relay squads. The “A” team of sophomore Annaleagh Stahl, freshmen Jaydy Jay, Sarah Bull, and Dia Henderson checked in at 11th with a time of 1:47.90 while the “B” team of freshmen Sasapin Sarawas and Ava Light and sophomores Ida Rudelius and Madiana Lofgren completed the race in 1:50.47 to earn 15th.
Bull carried the momentum into the 100 butterfly, swimming a school record time of 58.22 to finish 20th, while Henderson (58.22), Rudelius (59.20), Lofgren (1:04.17), and Light (1:09.29) finished 22nd, 26th, 36th, and 40th respectively.
In the 400 individual medley, Stahl and Jay once again earned top 16 finishes as Stahl improved her standing by one place ending 10th with a time of 4:36.48 while Jay took 16th with a 4:43.93. Junior Olivia Votava (4:47.83) and Plant (4:48.40) finished in 20th and 21st, respectively, to round out the event for the Vaqueros.
In the 200 freestyle, Henderson and Rudelius earned 16th and 17th place, respectively, while Lofgren and Plant turned in 27th and 29th place finishes.
Jay led the way for the Vaqueros in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a 1:07.77 to claim a UTRGV-high 16th place. Light finished in 23rd after clocking in at 1:10.49. Meanwhile, sophomores Diara Aleman (1:18.12) and Alexia Gonzalez (1:20.86) and freshman Giovanna Pierami (1:21.16) finished 28th, 29th, and 30th, respectively.
Stahl earned her second top 10 finish, this time clocking in at 57.11 in the 100 backstroke to finish 10th. Bull finished close behind, claiming 15th after swimming a 58.41. Sarawas (58.97) and freshman Marina Johnson (1:01.30) finished 23rd and 29th, respectively. Junior AJ Rogers (1:06.16) and sophomore Lauren Uribe (1:10.12) turned in 34th and 35th place finishes to round out the event.
To finish the preliminary round, the Vaqueros competed in the 800 freestyle relay where the team of Bull, Henderson, Votava, and Rudelius swam a school record 7:48.35 to earn seventh while the team of Plant, Rogers, Lofgren, and Sarawas clocked in at 8:11.02 to claim 11th.
Looking Back at the Prelims
In the 400 individual medley, Stahl and Jay both qualified for the “B” final with top 16 finishes. Stahl placed 12th with a time of 4:41.09 while Jay clocked in one second later in 16th with a time of 4:42.92.
Henderson finished 20th in the 100 butterfly and swam a school record time of 58.73. Meanwhile, Bull clocked in at 59.19 to finish 23rd and Rudelius finished 25th with a time of 59.67.
Henderson continued to shine in the sprints, qualifying for the “B” final in the 200 freestyle after placing 15th with a 1:57.39. Rudelius followed close behind, clocking in at 1:58.19, to finish at 17th. Meanwhile, Plant (2:00.95) and Lofgren (2:00.99) finished 28th and 29th, respectively, to round out the Vaqueros top 30 finishers.
Jay led the way for the Vaqueros in the 100 breaststroke, finishing 17th with a time of 1:07.82, while freshman Light came in 24th with a time of 1:09.65.
The Vaqueros had two top 16 finishes in the 100 backstroke as Stahl (57.85) and Bull (58.10) qualified for the “B” final, finishing tied for 11th and 16th, respectively. Sarawas finished came in 22nd with a time of 58.97.
In the 50 freestyle, Henderson set a then-school record 24.66 to finish 28th and qualify for the “D” final while Rudelius finished placed 35th with a time of 24.87 to qualify for the finals as well. Votava (25.11) and Lofgren (25.53) turned in top 50 performances, earning 41st and 49th, respectively, in the event.

BOISE, Idaho – The Alaska Nanooks swimming team competed in the second day of the Northwest Collegiate Invite on Saturday, ending the day in fifth place with 432 points.
The Nanooks finished eighth and 13th in the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of McKenzie Fazio, Dorka Dancsok, Giorgia Merlo and Janci Pangburn finishing highest with a 1:46.07. Merlo was the highest finisher for the ‘Nooks in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 58.70 to place 21st in the C Final. Alaska had two swimmers in the E Final of the event, as MacKenzie O’Keefe (1:03.73) and Kaidence Sampsel (1:08.28) finished 35th and 39th.
In the A Final of the 400-yard IM, Dancsok continued her stellar weekend, placing third in the event with a 4:26.99, good for another NCAA B Cut. Cosima Schmiedel and Charisma Watkins swam in the C Final of the event, placing 17th and 22nd, respectively, with times of 4:42.61 and 4:49.77.
Fazio continued the good results for the Nanooks in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a fourth-place finish after touching the wall in 1:53.68. Ali Pecore also swam in the A Final and earned a sixth-place result with a 1:55.54. Kitti Marton (15th, 2:00.08), Janci Pangburn (22nd, 2:00.66) and Mariia Sirotinskaia (26th, 2:00.16) also competed in the event, swimming in the B, C and D Finals, respectively.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Dorka Dancsok finished 10th with a 1:05.24 after earning a spot in the B Final. The Nanokos had two more swimmers racing in the D Final of the 100 breaststroke, with Macy Ahrens and Sariah Rodgers finishing 25th and 26th, respectively, in 1:08.67 and 1:11.84.
In the final individual event of the day, Fazio posted a 57.51 to lead the Nanooks in the 100-yard backstroke, with that time good for seventh place in the A Final. Watkins (1:00.84), Sirotinskaia (1:03.30) and O’Keefe (1:06.05) would take 27th, 31st and 32nd after their race in the D Final.
Alaska placed sixth and 10th in the 800-yard freestyle relay, with Fazio, Marton, Merlo and Pecore posting a 7:45.99 to lead the Nanooks.
The Nanooks conclude the meet tomorrow with prelims beginning at 8 a.m. AKST and finals starting at 2 p.m. AKST.
