In a repeat of the 2025 Water Polo World Cup final, #3 Hungary and #4 Greece will face off for the gold and silver medal at the Worlds tournament in Singapore. #1 Spain and the #3 United States are set to compete for the bronze medal. Both matches will take place on July 23.

Hungary earned its spot in the final by downing #1 Spain, the Olympic gold medalists from Paris. The game was not particularly close with the Hungarians getting out to an 11-4 lead by halftime. Spain made up some ground in the second half, but not enough to come back entirely. The score stood at 15-9. Dorrotya Szilagyi and Rita Keszthelyi of Hungary and Elena Ruiz of Spain all netted three goals each. Hungarian goalkeeper Boglarka Neszmely saved a game-leading 14 goals to put her country in the gold medal final for two World Championships in a row. In Doha, they earned silver behind the United States.

This year, though, the U.S. will be fighting for bronze, as Greece continued on its historic 2025 tear with yet another win. The match remained close for the first three quarters. The Greeks led 9-8 before netting five points in the final session to America’s 2. Vasiliki Plevritou was essential in Greece’s win, as she scored a hat trick in the last quarter alone. This made the final score 14-10.

Greece’s women’s water polo has had its best year in decades. They beat Hungary in the World Cup final in the spring. Now, they are guaranteed another medal. Hungary and Greece were in the same preliminary groups, and Hungary beat Greece 10-9. It’s difficult to bet against either of these teams for the final, which will take place at 9:35 A.M. EST on the 23rd.

Spain vs The United States should also prove to be a fascinating match. It marks a clash of the two 2024 gold medalists, Olympics for Spain and World Championships for the U.S. Both teams remain undefeated thus far in the tournament, but Spain had a better World Cup run, giving them the edge in rankings. This match kicks off at 7:35 A.M. EST.
