How the Coach Stole Christmas

Thanks to Jesup Szatkowski, head coach of LTP swimming, for contributing this story.

‘Twas the night before training camp and all through the pool, swam little swimmers in Speedos looking cool.

While coaches schemed and plotted with maligned crooked grins, yelling “get out your paddles, your buoys and fins!”

We take no delight in exhausted little fishes, but swimming more and swimming faster are on our list of wishes.

More kicking, more fly, more IM we utter, not to be confused with summer league’s “mixed medley” or “butter”.

Every swimmer in Charleston likes pool games a lot, but the menacing LTP Coaches definitely Do Not!

The coaches hate pool games, the whole idea of fun, now please don’t ask why, just swim, jump, lift and run.

It could be our heads aren’t screwed on just right, or maybe perhaps our stopwatches are on a little too tight.

But I think the most likely reason of all, is that maybe our hearts are 2 sizes too small???

While listening to jingle bells and little drummer boys drumming, coaches get giddy with Winter Training Camp coming.

To survive such a feat, swimmers need heart, toughness and luck, but it also can’t hurt to slip the coaches some Starbucks.

“Why are you taking our Christmas break, Why?”, all of our swimmers will ask with a sigh.

“Why, my sweet little tots”, the wise coaches replied, “we must work on backstrokes and front strokes and sides”.

Coach Ellen won’t scream, but her words you must heed, while our little ones hinge on every word from Coach Reid.

Besse brings spunky fun to the bubble, but wouldn’t want her mad if you’re an elf causing trouble.

Jessica can be Grinch-like; her group’s not for the meek. Coach Mike makes sure that Live Light’s always on fleek.

Coach Cathy, the artist, draws & writes like Geisel, coaching the Love group in search of the next Liz Beisel.

Jaci is a character, some might call her a Who, and Mary B, so spunky, our own Cindy Lou.

Tis the season to be merry, work hard and swim fast, generously giving, just don’t settle for last.

If you strive for your best, on State cuts you’ll feast. Train like an animal and race like a (roast) BEAST!

Success in the pool doesn’t come from a store, hard work makes it all mean just a little bit more.

On a winter training adventure, together we embark, for the greatest season of all for all our TIGERSHARKS!
