Hosszu Doubles Up on Medley with 400 IM Win – Race Video

Katinka Hosszu of Hungary continued and exceptionally strong meet with a win in the 400 IM at 4:30.41 in ahead of hometown Barcelona favourite Mireia Belmonte Garcia. Belmonte managed a 4:31.21 to hold off American Elizabeth Beisel in 4:31.69. Well back and off form was Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen in 4:38.51, over ten seconds slower than the World Record she set at the Olympics last year.

You might mention that Breast Stroke takes the largest fraction of the 4 strokes giving the strong breaststroker an advantage if the splits for the other strokes keep the swimmer in contention.

I remember when Ruta Meilutyte swam 100 IM at the s/c World Championships in 2012, Istanbul. Meilutyte was last before the breastroke leg at the 50 meter mark but arguably first after it. 🙂
