Texas A&M Last Chance Meet

Texas A&M is having their last chance meet this weekend in college station, giving swimmers their last opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships next month.
There were a few strong swims from the swimmers at the meet on Day 1, both in the scheduled events and in Time Trials.
In the 500 freestyle, Texas A&M Junior Hayden Miller went 4:39.44 in the women’s 500 freestyle. This was a two second drop from the time she went at last week’s SECs of 4:41.50, when she placed 20th.
It was also a new season best time for her, improving from the 4:40.78 she went back in November at the Art Adamson Invitational. This time would rank her 36th this season, including the swims from last night’s Big 12 championships.
This places her firmly on the bubble for NCAA Invites, as last year the cutline fell at the 37th ranked swimmer at 4:41.19, but this was a significant decrease from the 2023 where 39 athletes were invited.
Miller has a lifetime best of 4:36.60 from last year’s NCAAs where she finished 10th overall.
The other significant swim was Cal 5th year Margaux McDonald who went a new personal best 59.50 in the women’s 100 breaststroke. At the ACC Championships last week, McDonald set her previous best at 59.53 in the prelims.
While it was only three tenths of a second, it will make the difference between her ranking 38th and 41st in the event, which could be the difference of an Invite in the event. Last year 37th was the last invited swimmer in the 100 breaststroke at 59.75. She also sits at 39th in the 200 breast which is another bubble swim, but likely just out of qualification.
