Australia’s Harrison Turner is having quite the breakout year. 12 months ago, he had never represented his country on the international stage. Today, he earned Australia a surprise bronze medal and lowered a 16-year-old supersuited national record.
Turner, 21, logged a 1:54.17 this evening in Singapore. This takes Nick D’Arcy’s 1:54.46 outing from the 2009 Australian Nationals off the record books. The swim also lowered Turner’s own 1:54.90 personal best posted at the 2025 Australian Trials. Prior to Trials, he had never been faster than 1:57.07, showing just how much of an improvement curve he’s on.
| Harrison Turner, 2025 World Finals | Nick D’Arcy, 2009 Australian Nationals Finals | Harrison Turner, 2025 Australian Trials Finals |
| 25.22 | 25.90 | 25.20 |
| 53.79 (28.57) | 55.05 (29.15) | 53.83 (28.63) |
| 1:22.99 (29.20) | 1:24.61 (29.56) | 1:23.72 (29.89) |
| 1:54.17 (31.18) | 1:54.46 (29.85) | 1:54.90 (31.18) |
Turner went out like a rocket, getting over a second ahead of D’Arcy’s record pace at the 100 mark. He extended the lead to over a second and a half at the three-lap mark before coming home slower than D’Arcy, but still overall .29 faster.
The 1:54.17 effort from tonight also eclipses Australia’s textile national record. D’arcy also held this one, standing at 1:54.61 from 2010. Now, only two Australian men’s individual records from the 2008-09 supersuit era remain.
Singapore is only Turner’s second ever international championship meet. His first experience came from the 2024 Short Course Worlds in Budapest, after Kaylee McKeown’s drop out from the meet opened up a spot for him.
More than just the record, this swim marked Australia’s first ever World Championship medal in the men’s 200 fly. This event has historically been one of the country’s weakest, but things look to be Turning around this quad.

This is awesome – Harrison Turner been doing good things lately – now he’s done the best thing!
