Hanover Girls Win Third Straight, Souhegan Boys Repeat At New Hampshire Division II State Meet

It was a three-peat for the Hanover girls and a repeat for the Souhegan boys at the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association Division II State Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Hanover girls finished 42 points ahead of runner-up Souhegan, while the schools flip-flopped places in the final boys standings, with Souhegan finishing 29 points ahead of Hanover.

Girls’ Recap 

Hanover won just one event, and that came in the 400 free relay. The team of Kai Britton (1:00.94), Joy Cheng (1:00.03), Mimi Al-Nimr (1:03.02) and Addy Cesanek (57.76) combined for a time of 4:01.75, topping runner-up Milford by more than two and a half seconds..

Cesanek was the leading point getter for Hanover, placing 4th in both the 100 fly (1:06.00) and the 200 free (2:10.77). Both were personal best times.

Souhegan senior Keara Wilson, her sophomore teammate Izzie Gilbert, and Milford freshman Hannah Baron were the three multi-event winners individually at the meet.

Wilson, a Salisbury University commit, won the 500 free in a personal best time of 5:14.77 and then repeated as champion in the 100 back with a time of 1:00.27.

Gilbert had a double-repeat, defending her titles in both the 200 IM (2:08.64) and the 100 breast (1:03.52).

Wilson and Gilbert were also a part of two winning relay teams.

The Souhegan team of Wilson (29.15), Gilbert (28.32), Caitlyn Chorney (29.01) and Stella Foley (28.95) won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:55.43.

Souhegan claimed the 200 free relay in 1:47.67 behind the team of Gilbert (26.14), Foley (29.07), Chorney (27.85) and Wilson (24.61).

Baron was the queen of the sprint freestyles, winning the 50 free in 24.24 and the 100 free in 53.68.

Other individual winners were:

  • Milford senior Willa Audley won the 200 free in a time of 2:00.12 after finishing 3rd last year.
  • Oyster River senior Greta Parks won the 1-meter diving event with 399.90 points.
  • St. Thomas senior Morgan Batchelder claimed the 100 fly in a time of 1:01.14.

Boys’ Recap

Souhegan was led by junior Thatcher Dailey and sophomore Riley Wilson, who each won two individual events.

Dailey won the 50 free in a time of 22.24, and then repeated as champion in the 100 free with a time of 49.12.

Dailey was also a part of two winning relay teams for Souhegan.

In the 200 free relay, the team of Colin Turner (23.59), Jack Bortolotto (23.18), Charlie Saunders (27.07) and Dailey (22.10) won in a time of 1:35.94.

The 400 free relay was won by Souhegan in 3:29.73 behind the team of Wilson (48.74), Drew Rigaut (59.70), Colin Turner (52.00), and Dailey (49.29).

In addition to being a part of that winning relay team, Wilson won the 200 IM in a personal best time of 1:56.10 and the 500 free in a time of 4:47.02.

Other event winners were:

  • Coe-Brown won the 200 medley relay in 1:50.73 behind the team of Tucker Raymond (25.16), Shea Raymond (29.17), Brayden Behr (30.34) and Mateo Ferguson (26.06).
  • St. Thomas Aquinas sophomore Dylan Nichols won the 200 free in a personal best time of 1:46.66.
  • Hanover freshman Miles Molina claimed the 1-meter diving crown with 287.10 points.
  • Raymond, a junior for Coe-Brown, won his third straight 100 fly title in a time of 52.87.
  • Derryfield School senior Jake Oliviero won the 100 back in a time of 53.74.
  • Hollis/Brookline junior Jack Ablondi won the 100 breast in a time of 1:00.27 after placing 2nd last year.
